[YesAuto Industry] On May 15, at the Bosch China 2019 press conference, Bosch announced that its sales in China in 2018 reached 112.6 billion yuan, an increase of nearly 2.5% year-on-year. In 2019, Bosch will also establish a new software center in China, focusing on the improvement of software capabilities.
As early as the beginning of 2019, the Bosch Group announced its 2018 annual financial report. The group's sales in 2018 were 77.9 billion euros (approximately 600 billion yuan), of which 60% of the sales came from revenue from the automotive-related fields. Chen Yudong, President of Bosch China, said at the press conference that Bosch's business in China contributed more than 18% of the group's sales in 2018, and Bosch's automotive and intelligent transportation technology business also achieved a growth of 2.9% in 2018.
It is understood that in terms of market investment, Bosch has invested a total of 45 billion yuan in China in the past ten years. In 2018 alone, Bosch invested 7.8 billion yuan in China, an increase of nearly 22% year-on-year. Bosch said that it will continue to increase its investment in China in 2019, but has not disclosed the specific amount. Through continuous investment, new technologies such as smart boosters, 48V batteries and electric bridges have been continuously put into production in the Chinese market. In 2019, Bosch will also establish a fuel cell center in Wuxi, Jiangsu; at the same time, it will expand the Wujin plant in Changzhou, which mainly produces electronic products and services in the field of autonomous driving and interconnection, such as cameras and radar sensors.
In 2019, Bosch will establish a new Bosch Software Center in China. The center is mainly to enhance Bosch's software capabilities in China and promote the implementation of the Internet of Things strategy. According to Bosch, the future software center will provide software support for all business sectors of Bosch China, including embedded software, cloud-based digital software, and AI-based applications.
According to Chen Yudong, Bosch's establishment of a new software center is mainly for further research and development in the software field. For automobiles, it will focus more on the basic software capabilities of its underlying architecture. Hardware is still Bosch's advantage, but in the future, it will gradually strengthen its software capabilities and form a service capability that integrates software and hardware. According to Bosch's strategic plan, the initial investment in the software center will exceed 35 million yuan by 2020, and a total of about 500 software talents are planned to be recruited by 2022.
