[YesAuto Motorcycle] The British classic motorcycle brand TRIUMPH has a history of more than 100 years. A few days ago, Triumph Motorcycle announced a special project jointly carried out by British industry experts, academic leaders and Innovate UK (British Innovation Agency, a non-departmental public institution funded by the British government) to develop professional electric motorcycle technology and innovation Integrated solutions.
This new cooperation will combine Triumph’s world-renowned motorcycle expertise with advanced drive technology to bring technological innovation to future electric motorcycles. The project named “Triumph TE-1” is part of Triumph's electric motorcycle strategy, focusing on the balance between Triumph's operation, performance and practicality.
The project will be divided into four main phases, one of its main goals is to strengthen system integration. Develop various components of automobile-based electric transmission system and optimize them into innovative combined units. The project aims to provide advanced electric motorcycle systems, reduce weight, reduce complexity and packaging requirements.
● Triumph Motorcycle will lead the project, providing advanced motorcycle frame design and engineering expertise, professional manufacturing experience and pioneering functional safety system, as well as defining the power transmission characteristics of the electric drive system.
● Williams Advanced Engineering will provide industry-leading lightweight battery design and integration capabilities, using its test and development facilities to provide innovative battery management systems combined with vehicle control units.
● The e-drive department of Integral Drive Systems will lead the development of customized high-power intensive motors and silicon carbide inverters, which will be jointly inherited in a complete motor housing.
● The WMG of Warwick University will provide electrification expertise, model and simulate the needs of the future market, and drive innovation from R&D to commercialization.
Innovate UK, a government agency that promotes science and technology programs to develop the UK economy, will support partners and manage funds. This cooperation is part of BEIS's current investment strategy, which aims to create a market-leading comprehensive capability for electric vehicles in the UK.
Professor of Warwick University said: Electric motorcycles will play a vital role in the future of global traffic, reducing traffic congestion, improving urban air quality, and improving parking. With abundant, easy-to-control torque output, it brings a good riding experience for all road speeds.
