[YesAuto Featured Race] The 2014 Indy 500 Grand Prix will be held on May 25th at Indiana Motor Speedway, USA. This year's race will use the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 as a safety car. This is the 25th time that Camaro has played the role of a safety car in the Indy 500.
The 2014 Camaro Z28 is equipped with a 7.0-liter V8 engine that has a maximum power of 505 horsepower, 0-96km/h in only 4 seconds, and a maximum G value of 1.07g in the lateral direction of the curve. The new car uses Pirelli's high-performance Trofeo R tires, Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, and the shock absorber components have been specially tuned to make it easy to use on the street and on the track. These collocations enabled the Camaro Z28 to reach a lap time of 7 minutes and 37 seconds on the North Ring of the Nurburgring, one of the top supercars.
Driving it as a safety car will be the newly retired former champion Franchini. He had an accident in the 2013 Indy 500 Grand Prix and was unable to participate in the Indy 500 because of a serious injury. Unable to leave the stadium, he chose to drive a safety car to serve the game.
