[YesAuto in-depth experience] Speaking of BYD Su Rui, perhaps the most impressive thing about it is the “remote control driving” technology, right? With this feature, it became a hit at the Beijing Auto Show in April this year. Is this driverless technology easy to use? Compared with F3, G3 and L3 models, what are the improvements of BYD Su Rui? Recently, with the arrival of BYD Su Rui's new car, I have explored the above questions. Please see below for the real performance.
BYD Su Rui has been officially listed on August 21, if you want to know the specific price, please click here:

■ “Remote control driving” is fun, but not very practical
First, I will introduce Su Rui's much-concerned remote control driving technology. The owner can remotely start and remotely control the front and rear driving of the vehicle and turn the steering wheel left and right through a remote control similar to a slide phone within a range of about 10 meters from the vehicle. However, according to dealers, the maximum speed during remote driving is only 2km/h. This should be for safety reasons. If the speed is too high, it will really become a “remote control toy car”… In order to better demonstrate this set of remote control driving technology, we took a video with the camera, interested friends You can click to watch.
BYD Su Rui remote control driving technology experience:
Note: Many netizens talked hotly that the dot marks on the ground where the vehicle drove in the video were condensed water discharged from the air-conditioning system, not oil leakage. Please rest assured.
Also for safety reasons, when I remotely control the vehicle to move forward, reverse, and turn left and right, I have to press and hold the corresponding button on the remote control. As soon as I let go, the vehicle will stop immediately. In addition, the vehicle cannot be operated at the same time as it moves forward and backward and turns left and right. If it has to be compared with a remote control car, it does lack a lot of playability. But this design is obviously for safety reasons, and users should understand it.
In terms of freshness and playability, the editor feels that this “remote control driving” technology is indeed good. After all, it is the only model with this function currently available in China. This also reminds me of the scene in the movie “Agents of Bean 2”, where Mr. Bean remotely controls a Rolls Royce Phantom. It’s so cool! Playing with Su Rui, occasionally you play a “big toy remote control car” in an open field, and you can show off in front of your friends, isn't it? However, as far as practicality is concerned, I think the current application of this technology is of little significance. Simply ask, would you really use it to park your car? Slow ground speed will make you anxious to death. And the speed is fast, you may not dare to use it to park, if you accidentally press the time for a long time, it will hit the wall.
■ Appearance: simple and atmospheric, with almost no traces of imitation
Although Su Rui is still positioned as a compact car, its overall size is not small, with a length of 4680mm, a width of 1765mm, a height of 1490mm, and a wheelbase of 2660mm. The vehicle length data even exceeds that of Mazda 6 (4670mm), a medium-sized car with a small stature. And compared with rivals such as Emgrand EC7 and Baojun 630 at the same price, Su Rui is also larger.
|Body size comparison of BYD Su Rui, Emgrand EC7 and Baojun 630|
|Model||Su Rui||Emgrand EC7||Baojun 630|
Su Rui's appearance is simple and atmospheric, and no obvious imitations can be found on the front face. Among them, the front face shape created by the large-size headlights and the chrome-plated middle grille has a strong overall sense. Although the shape is modest, it is still pretty.
The size of the headlights is very large, and the lamp groups from the inside to the outside are: turn signal, high beam and low beam. The interior of the lamp group has a strong sense of layering. The low beam has a lens and there are blue eyebrows at the corners. The visual effect is good. If it can be integrated into the LED daytime running light, it would be better.
In contrast, the side of the Su Rui body does not have many bright spots, from the shape of the door frame, you can still see a little shadow of the corolla. The high waist line that runs through the front and rear door handles and meets the taillights is the finishing touch to the side of the car. As for the shortcomings, in my opinion, the door and window frames are designed in the same color, and it is better to use black to show the grade.
The rearview mirror is very functional. In addition to the turn signal, it also has a welcome light and a right blind spot camera. These functions are unique in cars of the same price.
The rear shape of the Su Rui is the same as the front face, and it also adopts a simple design style. The two huge diamond-shaped taillights, coupled with the chrome trim on the upper edge of the license plate frame, create a strong visual integrity. Among them, the brake light uses six LED light-emitting diodes, which are faster in response and more durable. As for other things such as: reversing lights, turn signals, and width indicators, ordinary light bulbs are still used.
In terms of tires, the Su Rui we actually shot uses 205/55R16 Giti tires, and the market price is around 400 yuan/piece. This match is considered more mainstream in this class of models. As for the 10-spoke aluminum alloy wheel style, there is nothing special, but at least it is not ugly.
The appearance of Su Rui left me with the impression that the design is simple and the styling is modest, almost no trace of imitation can be found, and the overall effect is quite beautiful. Compared with the once plagiarized F3 and the slightly immature line design of the G3, Su Rui's progress is obvious. In addition, due to BYD's introduction of ABB automatic spraying robots and other technologies, the new cars launched in recent years, such as the G6, S6 and the Su Rui in front of them, have a significantly improved paint finish compared to the old F3 and F6 models. Judging from the appearance of Su Rui, it can be said that it is no longer behind the competitors of the same level such as Emgrand EC7 and Baojun 630.
■ Center console: mature design and configuration are extremely rich
The design of the center console of Su Rui is mature, and the color matching of upper black and lower rice is also very traditional. As for the materials of the center console, it didn't bring us any surprises, and it was hard from top to bottom. However, the workmanship, seams and plastic surface texture treatment are much better than the original F3, G3 and L3.
The shape of the steering wheel is exactly the same as that of the Accord. The outer ring is wrapped in leather, which feels pretty good and has rich functionality. Among them, the multi-function button on the left is used to control the audio and Bluetooth phone functions, and the right is the switch of the trip computer and the control of the blind spot camera system on the right. The operation mode is the same as that on BYD G6, S6 and other vehicles. Edit here I won't introduce too much.
The dashboard design is very dazzling, and the most commonly used speedometers and steering tables use a barrel design. A 4.3-inch color driving computer display is embedded in the middle. In addition to displaying general information such as average fuel consumption and cruising range, there is also a menu option that can set vehicle maintenance tips and the color of the background light.
There is a row of small LCD screens on the top of the center console. In addition to displaying the temperature and time inside and outside the car, it also has the function of prompting whether the front driver's seat and the front passenger's seat belt are not fastened. I think it’s necessary to mention that when the current driver or occupant is not wearing a seat belt, the vehicle will have a voice prompt: “For your safety, please fasten your seat belt”, which feels better than “Dangdangdang” on most cars. ……” The prompt sound, kinder.
The feature-rich DVD multimedia entertainment system is a very common configuration for independent brand cars, and Su Rui is no exception. It has DVD playback, navigation, digital TV, Bluetooth phone, FM radio, reversing video…In short, it has all the entertainment functions you can think of. As for scalability, AUX, USB, and SD card interfaces are not lost. The resolution of the screen and the speed of reflection of the touch screen are better than those of cars of the same class.
The sound and air-conditioning control buttons with Chinese logos are a major feature of BYD, which is very intuitive, especially for those who are older and have poor English skills. The feel and damping of the buttons are also satisfactory. What needs to be praised is that Su Rui's glove box opens with damping, and the unexpectedly enhanced configuration always makes people applaud.
The design of the front storage space is also reasonable, and there is a little margin after the two water bottles are put in the door. There are also two cup holders in the center armrest of the front row. The depth of the center armrest is average, but it is no problem to put a coin purse and other personal items. In addition, the glove box is deep and practical.
■ Summary of center console and front storage space:
The design of the center console of Su Rui is moderate, and the color combination of upper black and lower rice is also very traditional. There are no surprises in the materials, and the configuration is quite rich. In terms of button damping, feel, and humanized design of storage space, Su Rui has been significantly improved over the previous BYD F3, G3, and L3.
■ Seat and space: the space performance is average, and the seat material feels good
The design of Su Rui's door interior panel is very layered, and the hand pillow is also wrapped in leather with soft filler inside, which feels pretty good. The four-door power window only has a one-key lift function on the main driver's side, and there is room for improvement.
The front seats are wide and flat, with almost no lateral wrapping. The inner fillings are moderately soft and hard. The leather feel and workmanship are fairly delicate, at least much stronger than the so-called leather seats on F3, G3 and other cars! The rear seats also take a wide and comfortable route, with a lot of center armrests, child safety seat interfaces, and three three-point safety belts. Unfortunately, there are two places. First, it does not have a headrest for the middle passenger, and second, the seat back cannot be folded down.
In terms of space, a 178cm-tall experiencer adjusts the front seat to a reasonable sitting position, and the head space is about 3 fingers. At this time, the back leg space is a punch + 2 fingers, and the head is 2 fingers. In general, Su Rui's legroom performance is not bad, and the headroom, whether it is the front row or the back row, is relatively cramped.
There is a cup holder inside each of the two rear doors of Su Rui, and the height design is very reasonable. At the same time, there are two cup holders on the center armrest of the rear row, plus a storage bag on the back of the front seat. You can get a pretty good storage space, and you don’t have to worry about finding a place to put your belongings. The disadvantage is that the ashtray is a bit small.
■ Power matching: 1.5TI + 6-speed DCT dual-clutch gearbox
In terms of power, the biggest highlight of Su Rui is that it is equipped with a 1.5TI in-cylinder direct injection, turbocharged engine + 6-speed DCT dual-clutch gearbox. The maximum power is 154 horsepower/5200prm, the maximum torque is 240 Nm/1750-3500rpm, and the 0-100km/h acceleration score announced by the manufacturer is 8.9 seconds. The data is quite beautiful, and we are looking forward to how the actual driving experience is.
In terms of suspension, Su Rui's performance is not as eye-catching as the engine and gearbox. It uses the most traditional front McPherson independent suspension + rear torsion beam semi-independent suspension structure. Although for this level of compact car, such a suspension match is normal, but I always feel that it is a bit unworthy of its power system.
■ Safety configuration: 6 airbags + ESP vehicle stability system
Su Rui's rich safety configuration can also be said to be refreshing. Take this car we photographed as an example. It is equipped with front double airbags, side airbags and side air curtains. There are six airbags in total. In addition, it also With ESP vehicle stabilization system, let us have a good impression of it doubled!
■ The manufacturer claims that “an average of less than 1 failure in two years” + “four years or 100,000 kilometers warranty”
In April this year, BYD put forward the concept of IQS10 quality system (what is IQS10? Please click to enter). For consumers, there are two most practical core contents. First, it promises that vehicles will have “less than one failure in two years on average”; secondly, it has introduced a “four-year or 100,000-kilometer ultra-long warranty” policy.
Regarding the final performance of the “two-year average of less than 1 failure” promise, although we do not know for the time being, we can see the determination of manufacturers to strictly control quality. The “four-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty” is a real benefit for consumers. In short, among the current cars of the same price, whether it is a joint venture brand or an independent brand, few can provide a four-year or 100,000 km warranty. BYD's move is worthy of recognition.
Su Rui, it can be said that BYD has launched another eye-catching product after G6 in recent years. The first is that the “remote control driving” technology it is equipped with is full of gimmicks. Although the editor feels that this technology is generally practical, but it is very playable; secondly, its exterior and interior design is more mature, basically free from plagiarism and imitation, and embarked on a road of completely independent design, and the interior materials are used. , Workmanship, although there is still a gap with the joint venture brand, but compared with BYD's previous F3, G3 and L3 models, the improvement is very obvious. From this, we can also see that the manufacturer has spent hard work on this product of Su Rui. Compared with top-notch self-owned brand compact cars such as Emgrand EC7, Baojun 630 and Great Wall C50, the performance of BYD's Su Rui is even better.
As for the price, the price of this Su Rui second top-fitting model we actually shot is 92,900 yuan. From the engine and gearbox to the configuration and space, it is compared with the self-owned brand models of the same level such as Emgrand EC7, Baojun 630 and Great Wall C50. There are certain advantages. But at similar prices, you can still buy mainstream compact cars from joint venture brands such as Chevrolet Cruze, Buick Excelle, Volkswagen Lavida, etc. Compared with them, Su Rui has greater advantages in power system and configuration, but BYD’s The brand value is very different from Chevrolet, Buick and Volkswagen! In the short term, it is almost impossible for Su Rui to surpass Buick Excelle and Chevrolet Cruze in sales.
