[YesAuto original test drive] When it comes to the BMW brand, everyone will immediately think of the word “driving pleasure” without me saying more. That's right, it is precisely because of the tireless pursuit of driving that has created today's BMW's very distinctive brand characteristics. The editor recently participated in the BMW Elite Driving Training Course held at the Beijing Golden Port Circuit, and learned in detail about several key points that need to be paid attention to in safe driving. Here is the specific content of the training.

1. The basis of safe driving: correct sitting posture

I don’t know if you’ve noticed it. In many movies and TV dramas, as long as there is a speed chase, many actors do not wear seat belts and do not adjust their sitting postures. In fact, some directors require actors to jump into the car and start leaving immediately. This looks more chic.

In fact, no matter which brand of driving training, no matter which instructor, will emphasize the importance of correct sitting posture at the beginning of the training. This will not only allow you to better control the vehicle, but also reduce the accident rate in emergency situations and even save your life. Therefore, in any case, we should not skip this link just because we are eager to get on the road, let alone take our lives to risk in pursuit of so-called chicness and fear of trouble.

I believe you’ve seen a lot of methods for adjusting your sitting posture. Here I will briefly emphasize the following steps: first adjust the height of the seat to make yourself comfortable; then adjust the front and rear positions of the seat so that the legs are still standing when you step on the brake pedal. Can keep the bending as the standard; then adjust the backrest angle so that one-handed can hit the 180° direction (the left hand rotates from the 9 o'clock position to the 3 o'clock position, the right hand rotates from the 3 o'clock position to the 9 o'clock position) and keep the bending as the standard; Adjust the headrest so that it can support the back of your head; finally adjust the position of the steering wheel, remember the most important step: fasten your seat belt!

2. Straight acceleration and emergency braking

It is more appropriate to use these two actions as a warm-up link, which allows you to understand the general performance of the vehicle in a relatively short period of time, and the repeated g value will also make your body quickly enter the state. The vehicle used in this training is a 335i coupe. The 3.0-liter twin-scroll single-turbocharged engine and the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission are very powerful power matching, and the logistical supply is sufficient, so you can focus on driving.

Because the purpose is to warm up and not to compete, you don't have to be too violent at the start. All kinds of “ejection” during the usual tests are avoided, and a straightforward throttle is enough. The self-protection of the dual-clutch gearbox inhibits the burst of power at the moment of the start. It is necessary to wait for the vehicle to actually move to make the back feel more oppressed.

The rear tire width of the original 335i is 255mm, which is obviously not enough to cope with the torque output of 400N·m. The entire first gear seems to be overpowered between the power outbreak and the internal friction of the tire. If it is not this obvious I believe that its speed-up performance will be much better. But 335i is not purely born for Cyclonus, this shortcoming can be ignored.

The acceleration runway is not long, even the S gear can only reach about 80km/h. The braking system can handle the full braking at this speed without much effort. This is the end of the warm-up project.

3. Warm up with the pile + curve + acceleration + brake combination

The next project is still for the purpose of familiarizing with the vehicle and warming up. After the start, it is a route around the pile, followed by a U-turn, and then full acceleration and braking.

The adjustment of the S gear of the 335i is much more radical than the D gear (this can be seen in Volkswagen and BMW models in recent years), and most of the time the speed can fall at the peak torque output from 1200 to 5000 rpm. In the range, the power climbing speed under the S block is amazing. You need skilled skills to control the direction trajectory when the pile barrel is exited. If you are not particularly familiar with the vehicle, I suggest that the D block is more appropriate.

Remember to slow down before entering the U-turn. For BMW, the steering accuracy is naturally superior. The steering wheel feedback is just right for male drivers, while the women in the same industry agree that it is “slightly heavy.” Although it is not as demanding as the winding pile, the routing at this time is also very important. Remember two essentials: slow in and fast out, and in and out. That is to slow down from the outside of the corner to enter the corner, and accelerate from the inside of the corner to exit the corner. As long as the wiring is properly routed, you can also make beautiful corners.

The subsequent acceleration and braking actions are repeated before, and there is not much to watch. This is the end of the warm-up action. Through two sets of purposeful projects, everyone has a preliminary understanding of the performance and control of the 335i. In my opinion, this is more like a high-performance sedan that retains a certain degree of comfort. Running is not pure enough, but it is also fun.

4. Dealing with oversteer

Oversteer is the basis of the “drift” that all driving enthusiasts talk about. If you handle oversteer well, you will hope to learn to drift well, but today we don’t go that deep, take safe driving as the guide, and master the handling of oversteer. The way is the ultimate goal.

Tips

The way to turn off DTC is to press and hold the DTC button on the central control panel for more than 3 seconds, and wait until the indicator light on the instrument panel lights up.

The operation method of manual mode is to first engage D gear, then move the gear lever to the left to enter S gear, and then push the gear lever upward to enter manual mode M gear.

First of all, the coach needs everyone to make an oversteer action, completely turn off the DTC dynamic stability control system, put into manual mode 1st gear and use 1st gear all the way, start slowly and enter the corner, accelerate at the point of exertion, and then walk in On a slippery road, the 335i, without the help of electronic systems, slipped out like a piece of soap, beautifully completing a 180° U-turn. When you oversteer, you also realize how dangerous it is to lose control.

The next thing to master is the correct way to deal with this situation. The previous steps are the same, until the moment the oversteer appears, immediately release the throttle and reverse the direction. It's easier said than done. At this time, the timing is very important. You must subconsciously release the accelerator at the moment of an emergency. Don't slam the brake pedal because of the adhesion of the four tires. Very different, strong braking will only aggravate the oversteer of the vehicle. The correct method is to reverse the direction while releasing the throttle, that is, to turn the direction out of the bend when the vehicle is pointing straight to the center of the bend.

After that, with the DTC turned on, we did the same action. Even if the throttle is fully depressed in 1st gear, the vehicle will still not lose control, but will smoothly exit the curve according to the predetermined trajectory. The function of the dynamic stability control system is fully reflected in this test. It is strongly recommended that you do not turn off the dynamic stability control at will when driving , especially when the road is wet and slippery in rain and snow. Under the intervention of the electronic system, the vehicle can do its best. May be controlled by you.

5. Track driving

The final link is to enter the track and drive. The Golden Port circuit is 2.4 kilometers long. The combination of various undulating road curves is very fun to drive. In addition, the condition of the entire track is not very good, and it can have a good suspension of the vehicle. The opportunity for investigation, and the straight road line is moderate in length, which is just right for the braking system of the production car.

The BMW 3 Series has always been regarded as the control benchmark for compact cars, and the 335i with strong power matching can undoubtedly provide higher control pleasure. Compared with the more neutral driving style of the domestic 3 Series, the performance of the 335i in corners is more in line with the identity of a rear-drive car. Due to the abundant power supply, the steering system and the gearbox respond very sensitively, and the tires are somewhat insufficient, so In the case of poor wiring, slight oversteer is prone to appear in corners. Due to daily use considerations, DTC has too strong control over the body, and any slippage is stifled in the swaddling, while ensuring safety at the same time Also sacrificed some fun. Of course, these are problems that only appear on the track, and if only talking about daily driving pleasure, the 335i is good enough.

to sum up:

With the increasing prosperity of the domestic automobile market, major well-known automobile manufacturers have brought their expertise to us in all aspects. Driving training is an important part of the content. Through professional coaches’ explanations and practical exercises, trainees Not only can you master higher-level driving skills and enjoy the fun of driving, but you can also have a deeper understanding of corporate culture and automotive products, which can be said to be a win-win situation.

As one of the best representatives of driving pleasure, the BMW brand's driving training runs through the emphasis on handling experience from beginning to end, and the students also fully felt the charm of the 335i. However, I still hope that readers will focus on driving itself, correct sitting posture adjustment, and correct emergency handling. These are the most important purposes of training. Please keep in mind that in daily driving, there is only one basis for all fun: safety!
