[YesAuto Professional Evaluation] Recently Hyundai Motor launched a new product to the domestic market. Its English name is GRAND SANTAFE. When I saw this name, I seemed to understand something. Yes, the new Shengda has been lengthened. It seems Koreans have now also learned this trick to try Bailing in the Chinese auto market. Different from other brands, Hyundai took this new car as a brand new product to the market, and gave it a new name-Gree.

The first time I saw Gree was at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show. The most impressive thing was that I worked hard to distinguish it from the new Shengda in the pictures I took at the time. This is a very difficult task. The cars are 95% similar. You can only distinguish them from the small details of the appearance. Think about it carefully and it took a lot of time for these two cars.

Therefore, in today’s article, the appearance and interior are not of much value. Friends who want to know the details can check out our real shot articles from the previous two days. Let’s start with the most important changes of Gree and take a look. How much space will change after lengthening the wheelbase by 100mm.

Some changes brought about by the longer wheelbase

The wheelbase of Gerui has reached 2800mm, and the length of the body has increased to 4915mm. The difference can be clearly seen through the space comparison experience with the new Shengda. The second-row passengers have more space, but I think the greatest significance It lies in the third row. The third row already has some leg room when the second row of seats does not move forward. If the second row of seats is moved forward to the same level of space as the new Shengda When the time, the third row of leg room will be more impressive, and finally it is no longer a configuration that can only accommodate children and pets.

The riding space has changed significantly, and the corresponding trunk size has also been expanded to a certain extent, mainly due to the longer longitudinal depth. In addition, the size of the panoramic sunroof has also been improved, including the opening area is larger than the new Shengda.

Earlier, we saw the impact of the long wheelbase on the Grip space, so let's talk about some of its driving experience in the next content. Let’s talk about the power system first. Grid has three different power configurations. One is a 2.2T diesel engine, and the other is a 3.0L V6 and 3.3L V6 gasoline engine. The 3.0L V6 model we are testing today. It is equipped with a 6-speed automatic manual gearbox, which is exactly the same as the power system of the imported new Shengda 3.0L model.

From a driving point of view, the extended 100mm wheelbase does not have any impact on Grid Rui. It still maintains the same relaxed driving style as the new Shengda. Although the body size is larger, it will not make the driver feel Any psychological pressure. This 3.0L V6 engine adheres to its own comfortable route. The heavy accelerator pedal and extremely linear power output completely dispel your desire to drive fiercely. Walking peacefully on the street is its most suitable state, even At the beginning, I didn't even feel that this was a V6 engine model.

This 6AT variable box is very smart, and it works perfectly with the engine, allowing the driver to switch gears without perception, and its smoothness is comparable to a CVT gearbox. Moreover, it is very active in daily work. In order to match the engine’s sluggish character, its vigilance is very high. It is always aware of the changes in the driver’s throttle, and can upshift or downshift at the right time. It is precisely because of this gearbox. , It didn't make Gerui's steady driving style become dull.

The laziness of the engine is just a factor of tuning. If you want a positive power response, you can keep the engine speed to about 4000 rpm. At this time, the V6 engine shows some true colors. You can feel the feeling of pushing back a little. , Of course it's just a little bit. In addition, its power reserve is relatively sufficient. From the start, to the high-speed stage, the acceleration will not be significantly attenuated. Let's talk about driving experience so much, then let's take a look at the performance of Gree.

Accelerated performance test

When starting, the engine speed can only be pulled up to about 2000 rpm, which may be to protect the gearbox, and the starting speed is not set too high. At the moment of starting, the vehicle does not rush out all at once, but needs to think for half a second before starting to exert force. It seems that the four-wheel drive system is working hard to calculate how to distribute the torque of the front and rear wheels. The final result was very good. The four-wheel drive system did not cause any tire slippage, and the moment of power burst was quite fierce.

During the acceleration performance test, the engine output is still very uniform, and the acceleration is always maintained at a relatively stable value. This can be seen from the acceleration curve of the test chart, and there is not much curvature change throughout the acceleration process. In the end, we got the acceleration result of Gree at 10.59 seconds. For a model with a 3.0 V6 engine, this result is too general. It is equivalent to some 2.4L models of rivals in the same level, but it’s okay. For a comfortable urban SUV, acceleration performance is not the focus of attention.

Brake performance test

The brake test result of the new Shengda test unexpectedly reached 39 meters, which is a very good result. Now the Gree is larger in size and heavier, but the brake performance is still very good, 10 consecutive brake tests All are kept at about 40 meters, and it can be seen from the continuous braking working condition diagram that the braking distance is still shortening, and the reliability of the braking system is trustworthy. In the braking project, Gree can get full marks. It is not easy to control the braking performance of an SUV model to about 40 meters. Few of all the SUV models we have tested can do this.

About four-wheel drive structure and performance

Since it is a four-wheel drive vehicle, it is necessary to test the four-wheel drive system. Gree uses a timely four-wheel drive system, a central multi-disc clutch structure differential, which can be manually locked and maintains a 50:50 front and rear power distribution. As long as the vehicle speed remains below 40km/h, you can perform central differential The operation of the speed gear lock. The front and rear axles are all open differentials without locking mechanisms.

The front and rear torque distribution of this four-wheel drive system that can lock the central differential is definitely not problematic. Therefore, we directly tested the cross-shaft escape ability of Gree to see if it has the ability of limited slip between wheels. Like many urban SUVs, Grid has a relatively small approach angle and cannot climb the test equipment. We can only use bricks to solve the problem. In the cross-axis state, the diagonal wheels lose their adhesion and start idling. At this time, the four-wheel drive system has no braking effect on the slippery wheels. The final test ended in failure. It seems that Gree does not have the ability to escape the cross-axis. However, for an urban SUV, the four-wheel drive system mostly aims to improve the driving stability on ice, snow and slippery roads. Extreme off-road is not suitable for it. Such four-wheel drive performance can be regarded as normal performance.

Noise test

The performance of Gerui in the noise test is also to be praised. The sound insulation of the body is quite good. Most of the wind noise and road noise are isolated outside the car, and the engine runs quietly.

Fuel consumption test

Gree’s fuel consumption performance also surprised us. The final test result was 15.8L/100km, which is too high for a 3.0L SUV model. In my concept, this is the same as Land Cruiser. The fuel consumption is the same as that of a large SUV with a large displacement. Analyze the test road conditions. The average speed of the whole journey is about 30km/h. Among them, 40% are congested roads, another 30% are unblocked loops, and 30% are stop-and-go integrated roads in the city. Look at the whole The test process is basically a normal daily driving environment. It may be because it is a new car that has not been fully run-in, which leads to high fuel consumption. In the future, if Gree’s fuel consumption can be maintained at the level of 13~14L/100km in normal use, it is considered It's normal, but when we look at it horizontally, Gree is really not a fuel-efficient guy.

to sum up:

It’s easy to write a simple summary of Gree’s product. It can be summarized in one sentence: the extended 100mm wheelbase greatly increases the space of the third row and improves the practicality. In addition, you can use it. Think of it as a brand new Shengda. And here I will have a question, why didn't Gree directly introduce Gree into the Chinese market in the first place? This model has been unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2012, not to mention that Chinese consumers like large spaces are already well known.

Let’s make a bold guess here. Perhaps Hyundai Motor wanted to take the lead in introducing Gerui to the Chinese market. It could not be achieved due to various reasons. However, we can’t just watch the Chinese SUV market, which is more and more fattened up by people. So first took out the new Shengda first to take advantage of the favorable terrain, and after Gree was ready, he could cooperate with the new Shengda to form a situation of flanking competitors. Of course this is just our random guess. We can’t verify the facts, but these are not important, because the emergence of Gree gives consumers more choices, and the purpose is very clear. It is for space and maintain height in other aspects. Unanimous.

Regarding the problems of competitors, Gree is very clear that it wants to compete with the Highlander, both of which are 5-door and 7-seater models, with similar power levels and prices at the same level. Now the space of Gerui has better performance, and the configuration has its own advantages. These are the weights for it to win. Now the new car has just been launched, and if there are more preferential strengths in the future, the price/performance ratio will be higher.
