[YesAuto Test Drive] More than 20 days ago, my colleague Meng Qingjia tested the FAW-Volkswagen CC. On August 8, 2010, I had the opportunity to participate in the “CC Fenghua Journey” long-distance test drive event, during which I was arranged to experience the FAW-Volkswagen CC in the “Wuxi-Xuzhou” section of more than 550 kilometers. In order not to have too much repetitive introduction with the previous test drive article, this test drive I focused on experiencing the FAW-Volkswagen CC intelligent driving assistance system and some details of the car.
The test drive model is the FAW-Volkswagen CC 2.0TSI Extreme (factory guidance price: 299,800 yuan). In order to highlight the sporty characteristics, all vehicles have added “optional packaging 3” (including: dynamic black interior Schwarz+ Alcantara luxury suede sports seats + steering wheel with paddle shifters). In other words, the test drive car used in “CC Fenghua Journey” has all the configurations that FAW-Volkswagen CC models can be equipped with.

● Appearance: Absolutely attract the attention of passers-by!
FAW-Volkswagen CC is dubbed “the most beautiful Volkswagen ever”! After my colleague's evaluation of the imported Volkswagen CC, and then to the actual shooting and test drive of the FAW-Volkswagen CC, there have been many praises for her attractive appearance. Here, I won't say much, you can directly feel her charm by looking at the following static pictures.
Although both belong to the Volkswagen PQ46 platform, FAW-Volkswagen CC looks younger and sportier than Magotan. Only from the appearance, you are absolutely unwilling to associate the two together. Their temperament is too different. The length, width, and height of the FAW-Volkswagen CC are 4799mm, 1855mm, and 1417mm respectively, which are 39mm longer and 35mm wider than the Magotan of the same platform, while the height is reduced by 55mm. This body size makes FAW-Volkswagen CC look more elegant and sporty as a four-door coupe.
● Interior: no novelty in design and kind materials!
Compared with the admirable exterior design, opening the door of FAW-Volkswagen CC, I believe many people will be as disappointed as I am. Continuing the already familiar Magotan rigid interior, the only bright spot inside the FAW-Volkswagen CC can only be attributed to the leather sports seats. In addition, if you desperately find a second design highlight, it can only be the multifunctional steering wheel that has been used on many models including Golf.
Compared with the old interior design, the materials used in the FAW-Volkswagen CC car are worthy of recognition. The center console part uses aluminum brushed decorative strips to provide a clean and refreshing feeling, while also enhancing the sense of movement in the car. However, the editor found while driving that when the vehicle is facing direct sunlight at noon, if the eyes are moved to the touch screen, the aluminum trim above it will reflect the strong light into the driver's eyes, which is quite dazzling. When mentioning the interior, let me tell you about the rich configuration of FAW-Volkswagen CC. The five models that announced the price are standard: cruise control, 6.5-inch color touch screen, analog visual parking image, automatic defense Dazzling interior rearview mirrors, automatic headlights, ESP, tire pressure monitoring system, automatic parking and other functions.
The 2.0TSI extreme model of this test drive is equipped with a unique intelligent driving assistance system (IDAC), an adaptive cruise system (ACC) with collision prevention, a lane assist system (Lane assist), a 10-probe intelligent parking assist system, The rear-view image system, in addition to the Dynaudio audio system that Hi-Fi car audio enthusiasts chase after, only appeared on the 2.0TSI supreme model.
● Space: The back row is not tasteless!
Frameless doors and “panoramic sunroofs” that cannot slide back and forth are the highlights of FAW-Volkswagen CC products. The panoramic sunroof straddles the B-pillar, and the larger glass area enhances the sense of space in the car. Regarding why it was not designed as a front and rear sliding sunroof, the relevant person in charge of the factory said that the main reason was the influence of the original body design line and the consideration of vehicle manufacturing cost. I think that a 4-door coupe with a sunroof that can be opened will be more popular with everyone.
There is more storage space in the front row, but it is difficult to find a place where ordinary mineral water bottles can be placed. It seems that FAW-Volkswagen CC owners can only buy mineral water in small bottles. There are two storage compartments under the air outlet of the center console air conditioner. It is not suitable for storing beverage cans, but in order to drink cold beverages, it is also good to choose small bottles of beverages.
Affected by the body line of the 4-door coupe, the rear headroom is slightly cramped and understandable. After the experience along the way, I feel that the head space in the back row has not reached the point of being intolerable, just like the space of a train sleeper, the middle berth is not as good as the lower berth, but it definitely enjoys a very good feeling of space than the upper berth. In addition, if you sit behind the co-pilot position and put the front seat down, sitting in this position is also quite comfortable, not inferior to the rear space of a normal medium-sized car.
● Intelligent driving assistance system: liberate your right foot!
The intelligent driving assistance system (IDAC) owned by FAW-Volkswagen CC includes 4 functions: 1 adaptive cruise system (ACC) with collision prevention, 2 lane assist system (Lane assist), 3 parking assist system, 4 rear Visual imaging system. Among them, during this long-distance test drive, I experienced more ACC and lane keeping systems. Below, through actual experience, make an introduction and comment on these two functions.
1. Adaptive cruise system (ACC) with collision prevention. You can simply understand it as a constant-speed endurance system that ordinary vehicles have, but various sensors are added to this system. By monitoring the driving condition of the vehicle within 150 meters, it can automatically keep the vehicle driving within the speed you set and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
The sensor is placed on the back of the Volkswagen logo on the front grille. After actual experience, the system can activate ACC within the set value of 30km/h to 150km/h. However, according to the factory personnel, the highest set value can reach 210km/h.
ACC can help you control the vehicle speed. The current vehicle speed is higher than the set value, and the vehicle keeps running at the set speed (this time is equivalent to the constant-speed endurance system of a normal vehicle); when the current vehicle is lower than your set speed value, The vehicle will not maintain the set speed, but will maintain the set distance. The speed will change continuously with the speed of the vehicle in front (of course, the brake system is working hard at this time).
If you want to overtake, you can step on the accelerator pedal and the adaptive cruise system will return to the standby state. After the overtaking is completed, release the accelerator pedal and the system will automatically return to the previously set speed; if the vehicle in front suddenly stops and brakes, The system will drop to the minimum speed (below 30km/h) and use a “di” sound to remind the driver to actively intervene in braking, at which time the adaptive endurance system will automatically shut down.
The relevant person in charge of the factory said that if the ACC fails, the system can be shut down in any of the following three ways: 1 step on the brake pedal, 2 push the small joystick behind the steering wheel forward, 3 push the transmission in an emergency To the “N” block.
In actual experience, when a vehicle is driving on a road with a large curve, ACC cannot sensitively sense the situation of the vehicle ahead. In addition, if it is rainy or when the weather conditions are relatively bad, it may interfere with the sensing device and make it insensitive. ACC is only a driving assistance system, and cannot completely replace the driver to control the vehicle. You still need to choose to use it according to the actual situation.
Just like this test drive experience, the weather and road conditions were good during the journey from Wuxi to Xuzhou. We use ACC intermittently on the 300-kilometer section of more than 550 kilometers, which can indeed greatly relieve the fatigue of long-distance driving. During this period, you only need to control the steering wheel with both hands, and there is plenty of rest time for your right foot. However, the editor still reminds current and future FAW-Volkswagen CC drivers that only by making good use of ACC according to the situation can they obtain the convenience of technology for everyone, otherwise it will become a life-threatening safety hazard!
2. Lane keeping system. When you activate this function through the trip computer, the system will enter the standby state when the vehicle speed reaches 60km/h, and the system will be activated when the vehicle speed exceeds 65km/h.
When ACC releases your right foot, and then you drive with only your hands. With the lane keeping system, as long as the steering wheel does not encounter a big curve, the steering wheel will automatically correct the direction, so that the vehicle will always keep driving in the lane without deviating, and the driver does not need to operate the steering wheel frequently.
In addition, it is worth noting that when this function is enabled, when overtaking to the left and right, you must turn on the turn signal in the corresponding direction to eliminate the opposite force from the lane keeping system to the steering wheel.
● Dynamic experience: without DCC, the handling and riding are all comfortable!
After a whole day of test driving on Sunday, the FAW-Volkswagen CC gave me a calm and passionate driving experience. In urban road conditions, the lightweight steering wheel plus a slightly heavy accelerator pedal, coupled with the responsive 6-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox, makes it very stable in urban construction. When driving to a high-speed section, the 6-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox matched with a 2.0TSI engine can also show a passionate side.
The 2.0TSI+6-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox can not only output strong power, but also provide a smooth driving experience. The 2.0TSI engine has a maximum power of 200 horsepower at 5100-6000rpm and a peak torque of 280N·m/1700-5000rpm. The power system is the same as the Magotan, which is impressive only from the data. I won't go into too much description here, and the detailed performance experience can be experienced through the previous article.
Driving on highways, the 2.0TSI engine can provide continuous power output. Even if you step on the accelerator slightly, the power boost is gentle due to the early intervention of turbocharging. When encountering a sudden acceleration, slam the throttle deeply, and the gear is reduced to D3. You can clearly hear the roar of the engine in the car, and the surging power output will follow. Of course, if you don’t have enough excitement, use S gear to overtake.
After subtracting the imported Volkswagen CC Adaptive Chassis Control System (DCC), FAW-Volkswagen CC's chassis tuning is unsurprisingly biased towards comfort, and the bumpy road is also thoroughly filtered. I was not surprised by the comfort after the chassis was tuned. After all, when facing more Chinese consumers, comfort is the first choice. It is understandable to save DCC, which can be used less than a few times a year.
Today, the “CC Fenghua Journey” long-distance test drive event departed from Xuzhou and arrived in Jinan. After the last batch of local media test drives, it arrived at the terminal station in Qingdao. The “CC Fenghua Journey” will be successfully concluded on August 11. I will return to Shanghai today. After a day of test drive experience, there are still many contents of FAW-Volkswagen CC that have not been experienced in detail.
