[YesAuto Evaluation] “What kind of car is this?” During the test of Changhe Suzuki Paixi, I encountered similar questions more than once. This can explain two points: first, it is rare; second, it has a special appearance. It has a dexterous and pleasant appearance, and a strange enough car logo; its price (5.49-6.19 million) is completely included in the price range of Changan Suzuki Alto (3.99-6.29 million), but it is equipped with a displacement Is it easy to drive with a 1.4L engine? How is the performance? I will find the answer for you.

Friends who follow Paixi must understand that Changhe Suzuki has struggled to launch Paixi. This car was already on the market overseas as early as 2008, but it failed to enter the country as scheduled due to various reasons. It wasn't until November 2011 that Paixi, which had a new car logo, was officially launched in China. The new car logo brought freshness, but it might take a while for everyone to recognize it.

Driving experience

Paixi is very comfortable to drive. It has many advantages: large space, wide vision, good power, easy-to-use gearbox, and moderate steering force. But slowly you will find its shortcomings: the seat is hard, the clutch, brake and accelerator pedals are high, and the ankles will get tired after driving for a long time.

The shape and grip of this 5MT are pretty good, the stroke is moderate, and the gears are clear. Although the entry is a bit jerky, I'm already quite satisfied with the model at this price. Paixi's steering wheel uses electric power, and the steering and feedback are moderate. Although it does not give a sense of road, it is quite suitable for home use. The steering wheel material looks like hard plastic, but after holding it on, it is softer than expected.

The coupling point of the clutch is really high. If you start frequently, your ankles will be very tired. Similarly, the brake pedal and accelerator pedal are also relatively high, not suitable for long-term driving. The brake pedal is moderately strong, and it is effective when you step on it. It performs well in daily driving.

The appearance of the 1.4L naturally aspirated engine on this 1,070 kg car makes people expect it's power performance. You know, Splash, which is listed overseas, is equipped with 1.0L and 1.2L gasoline engines, as well as a 1.3L diesel engine.

It is found in driving that its power is relatively strong in the same level. Paixi's suspension feels quite solid, but the adjustment is harder and the comfort is average. When turning, the suspension supports the vehicle fairly well, and the car feels that the roll is not very obvious. Considering its height of 1680mm and width of 1600mm, this performance is already good.

In general, Paixi is easy to drive. You can drive comfortably or aggressively. Just don't encounter traffic jams, too high pedals will make your ankles uncomfortable. In addition, Paixi also got good results in the fuel consumption link that everyone is very concerned about.

Fuel consumption test

On the day of the test, the temperature was 25°C, the load was one driver and a small amount of photographic equipment, and the air-conditioning was turned on throughout the journey. A total of 128.7 kilometers was driven. About 20% of them were congested roads below 30 kilometers per hour, and about 30% were in cities with speeds of 40-70 kilometers per hour. Road sections, the remaining 50% are high-speed sections with a speed of 80-120 kilometers per hour. A total of 8.65 liters of 92# gasoline was consumed in the whole journey, and the average fuel consumption per 100 kilometers was 6.72 liters. This is a pretty good result. The average fuel consumption of 6.5 liters displayed on the trip computer is very close to the actual measured value.

Next we look at the other test results of Paixi.

0-100km/h acceleration

12.33 seconds is not bad at this level. For urban mobility vehicles, this kind of acceleration is enough. You can also “exercise” occasionally when you need it. The graph shows that it takes about 0.5 seconds to shift from the 1st gear to the 2nd gear, and the 2nd gear to the 3rd gear is very smooth, with little impact on the power. The maximum acceleration G value appeared at 1.89 seconds after the start. The tire slipped and lost a lot of power at the start. It seems that the 185mm wide Taifeng “Super steel 657” tires are still a bit conservative for Paixi. If the tire grip can be further strengthened, I believe that the accelerated performance can be improved to a certain extent.

100-0km/h brake

During the entire braking process, the average deceleration G value was around 0.9g, and there were large fluctuations in the first 12 meters. This also has a lot to do with the weaker grip tires. Fortunately, the final average score of 44.78 meters was considered a pass. Paixi should really consider the issue of tires when changing models. It is said that the tire width of 185mm is quite wide for Paixi. It seems that the problem should lie with the brand and model.

In general, Paixi has performed fairly well in various tests, and considering its price of RMB 549,000 to RMB 61,900, these results are all acceptable.

Full text summary

Paixi’s performances are quite satisfactory. If it is more distinctive, it may only be the appearance. Of course, we can't ask a small car with a price of tens of thousands of yuan to achieve a certain characteristic to the extreme. Paixi's comprehensive capabilities are already good. We should also see that it is very kind in some small details. For example, the main and co-pilots are equipped with makeup mirrors, and the feel and damping of various buttons are good.

Why can't Paixi's sales keep up? After analysis, the main reason is that there are more competing models at the same price, and Paixi’s positioning is awkward. Its competitors include Alto at the same price and different levels, Swift and Sail at the same level and the same price, and Beidouxing also from Changhe Suzuki. These models have been on the market in China for many years, and their recognition is much higher than Paxi, and they have established a good reputation.

Alto’s name is well-known to every household, and its market competitiveness has been further stabilized after it ushered in a new generation in 2009. Its price range (3.99-6.29 million) poses a great threat to Paxi (5.49-6.19 million), and there are also automatic models available. It is one of Paxi’s strong competitors; Swift is of the same level. Among the more sporty models, they have good performance and are also easy to drive. They also take into account the home use. There are also models equipped with automatic transmissions. The main advantage of Paixi in front of it is the price; after the Sail in 2010, its competitiveness has also been obtained. In order to improve, it provides MT and AMT gearboxes, and there are sedan models to choose from. The sedan is very attractive to many families; while the Big Dipper is super practical and relatively cheap.

Let’s take a look at Paxi. Its overall size is the same as that of Swift, but its wheelbase is the same as Alto. There is no advantage in price compared to Alto. This makes its situation very embarrassing. Only manual gear is available, which also makes Paxi lost. Some consumers who need automatic transmission. In terms of configuration, Paixi’s 54,900 minimum model is not equipped with airbags, and even Alto’s minimum model is equipped with main driving airbags. Paixi’s top model is equipped with fixed-speed cruise. It is the only one among these cars that is equipped with fixed-speed cruise. This is actually a relatively tasteless configuration. If it can be replaced with a more practical configuration, it will be used by more consumers. accept.

Speaking of cruise control, by the way, Paxi’s manual gear + cruise control will interrupt the cruise if you shift gears during cruise. In fact, cruise control is still very useful in high-speed sections such as loops in cities, but many people are not used to it, so its practical significance is not so great.

Changhe may hope that Paixi will give people a relatively high-end impression in the early stage of its debut with the new car logo. Therefore, they have equipped Paxi with a lot of relatively high-end configurations and set a relatively high price accordingly. Judging from the market situation, everyone's acceptance of the new car is not enough. If enough discounts can be given on the sales side, it should have a certain market.

The editor learned from the 4S store that you can now enjoy a 3,000 yuan subsidy for the purchase of Paixi. At the same time, the store can also give about 1,000-3000 discounts (different from region to area). Paixi’s maintenance period is 5000 kilometers. The small maintenance is about 230 yuan, and the major maintenance is about 300 yuan (for reference only, the actual price in the store shall prevail).
