[YesAuto News] A few days ago, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) of the North American Highway Safety Insurance Association officially released the list of the first batch of Top Safety award-winning models in 2020, with a total of 64 award-winning models. The award is divided into TOP SAFETY PICK (best safety choice) and TOP SAFETY PICK+ (best safety choice+), of which the latter has a higher level, and there are a total of 23 winning models.

To win the 2020 TOP SAFETY PICK and TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards, the relevant vehicle must have a G (good) rating in the six crashworthiness evaluations of the institute. At the same time, IIHS also emphasized that these cars must be equipped with a good lighting system. This item will be considered for the headlights and related functions of these models. In addition, the award-winning model must have a good vehicle/person-vehicle collision prevention system. Regarding the difference between these two awards, IIHS requires that models that have won the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award must be equipped with a good headlight lighting system as standard, while TOP SAFETY PICK requires an optional.

Specifically, the models that won the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award this time are all models sold in the U.S. market. Among them, the models that are more familiar to the domestic market include: the new Mazda 3 (including hatchback and sedan), Mazda 6 (that is, domestic Atez ), Mazda CX-5, Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid (namely domestic Subaru XV), Subaru Forester, Toyota Camry, Lexus ES, Lexus NX, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Tesla Model 3, Audi A6 (overseas short-axis version) And Cadillac XT6, etc., the detailed list is shown in the figure.

There are more models that have won the TOP SAFETY PICK, including: the US version of Tian Civic (including two-door, hatchback and sedan), Honda Accord, US version of Hyundai Elantra (that is, the domestic Hyundai leader), Hyundai Veloster Phase One , Hyundai Sonata, Subaru Impreza (including sedan and travel version), Subaru WRX, Toyota Corolla, BMW 3 Series, Volvo S60, Audi A7, Lincoln Adventurer, Lexus RX and Audi Q8, etc. (there are more models, please refer to image).

At the same time, IIHS also specifically pointed out the excellent performance of the two brands Mazda and Hyundai, calling them “outstanding”. Among them, the 6 models sold by the Mazda brand in the North American market are all on the list, and the Hyundai + Genesis brands share 11 cars were shortlisted.
