[YesAuto Test Drive] Although we knew there would be a hatchback version before the Haima 3 was launched, the H11 also showed a face at the Shanghai Auto Show last year, but there was no news for the next year. I didn’t see it again until recently. It will be listed soon. It stands to reason that it will not take a year from the sedan to the hatchback, but this is indeed the manufacturer's plan. H11 is not late because it is not just a hatchback version of the Haima 3.

Searching for “Hippocampus Motors” on Baidu, the results are impressively written as “Intermediate Car Experts”. This is not a bluff from the manufacturers, they are indeed working towards this goal. In the news material sent to the hand, the manufacturer compared the product to Fox; in the introduction of the product briefing, many specific details of the H11 are also based on the “German A-class car” as the reference standard. In fact, I was very impressed with the previous Haima 3, laser welding and 4-link independent suspension. Among independent brand manufacturers, Haima is always brave enough to try advanced technology. This time, Haima is aiming at joint venture brand products everywhere. This is not surprising. The goal is always to be on the same level. The key is whether it can reach the set goal in the end.

As I said earlier, H11 is not just a hatchback version of Haima 3. After more than a year of market inspection, the manufacturer has received a large amount of user feedback and has a full understanding of some of its problems and deficiencies. So when I tested the H11 this time, I was very pleased to see some improvements.

The appearance of the H11 is basically the same as the previous prototype, which continues the style of the Seahorse 3. The front face just moved the chrome trim on the middle mesh to the bottom. The side of the body is a standard hatchback, and the tail compartment is excessively smooth. The appearance of the rear is very similar to the hatchback Mazda 3, especially the taillights. One of the improvements to the rear of the car is the addition of a hand buckle for opening the trunk lid. In the past, opening the trunk lid of the Seamaster 3 was really difficult. The body paint process has always been Haima's strengths, and the paint finish of the H11 is also very good. The sheet metal and body assembly process of the Haima 3 has been criticized. Now the situation has improved, but some flaws can still be found.

Haima equips H11 with 205/50 R16 tires, which is the highest level among the current models in the same class. The low profile is designed to improve the handling performance, this time the hippocampus especially emphasizes the sportiness of the H11.

The interior part still imitates the Haima 3, the overall look is very neat, the interior color matching is good. The layout of the center console is reasonable and clear, and it is convenient enough to use, in line with Haima’s “three good” principles. (“Three Goods” are the highlights of the H11 proposed by Haima, which are good-looking, easy-to-use, and easy-to-open).

Moreover, the interior workmanship of the H11 has been greatly improved. Although the materials are not so advanced, each component is tightly fitted, leaving a good impression at first glance. And some of the problems that appeared on the hippocampus 3 have also been improved on the H11. This kind of interior level can be regarded as a high-quality product among the products of domestic independent brands. In addition, I would like to add another word. The cars in this test drive are all new cars that have just run for tens of kilometers, but during the entire test drive, I did not smell any pungent smell.

The space of the H11 is quite large in a compact car. The front and rear leg space and the width of the body are completely sufficient, but the head feels a little depressed. The wrapping of the seat is very good, especially the ordinary fabric seat. The A-pillar has a large inclination angle, and the front windshield and front window feel a bit narrow. With the long and narrow rearview mirror, sitting in the driver's seat is a bit of a sports car. However, it also brings some minor problems. The rearview mirror has limited field of view and the A-pillar also blocks the line of sight.

A hatchback, the combination of space is not small, the backrest of the H11 can be easily folded. However, it seems that the seat cushion cannot be folded forward (I tried several times without success), so the backrest is not flat after being folded. The loading capacity of the H11 is generally acceptable. It is fully qualified for family use, but wouldn’t it be better if the luggage compartment could be made more regular?

The H11 uses the HA-VIS-1.8 II engine, which has the same power value as the first generation on the Seamaster 3. It can output 122 horsepower and 160 N·m. It is said that the engine ECU has been optimized, and the fuel consumption per 100 kilometers has been reduced by 0.5 liters. In addition to the 5-speed manual gearbox, Haima also equips the H11 with a 6-speed CVT continuously variable transmission this time, which changes the situation of the Haima 3 series without automatic transmission, and hopes to attract more female users.

Driving a CVT model on a normal road naturally has excellent ride comfort, but the CVT gearbox also limits the use of power. It is difficult for the tachometer to make a big jump after deep stepping on the accelerator, and the power output is always gentle. H11 uses a 4-link independent rear suspension, which has inherent advantages. In addition, Hippocampus also invited Japanese experts to adjust it, and the effect was extraordinary. The vibration of the road surface can be filtered very cleanly, and there is no loose feeling in the suspension on the bumpy road surface. On the undulating road surface, the suspension has good supportability, and the body will not sway along with the road surface. In my impression, this suspension should be the best adjusted among independent brands, and it can already be comparable to some mainstream joint venture products on the market.

The manufacturer especially emphasized that H11 has done a lot of work on sound insulation, not only has strict sound insulation measures around the engine compartment, but also the four wheel arches, luggage compartment, roof and chassis have also been dealt with accordingly. The effect is obvious. The noise from the tires and suspension is very small during driving, which not only improves the driving comfort, but also gives people a subjective feeling that the suspension is tight and solid. However, when idling in place, the engine occasionally made a “click” sound. When driving at high speed, there will be obvious wind noise from the rear window, and it is just next to the ears of the rear passengers. I tried it with my hands. The windows are closed and there is no place for ventilation. It seems that there may be dead air corners on the exterior of the car. .

The manual car was driven on the track the next day. The 5-speed manual gearbox can make the power burst more direct, which is the performance that the 1.8-liter engine should have, and the smooth shifting feel of the gearbox is also rare. The tough suspension of the H11 gave the body a lot of support on the track, but the grip of Hankook tires was really limited, and tires started to ring very early. The steering system performs well in daily driving, with even force and comfortable steering, but it is not suitable for the track, and it is still a little light at high speed.

The test drive time is very limited, so there is no chance to have a deeper experience of H11. At the Guangzhou Auto Show a few days later, H11 will officially meet with you. Recently, Haima is also conducting an official name solicitation activity to make final preparations for the listing. Soon we will meet with H11 again, and we will bring you a more detailed experience and test report. Another important part of this test drive event is the H11's 24-hour uninterrupted track test. Several H11s were driven by several drivers in Chengdu Jingang for 24 hours in turn. The manufacturer hopes to prove that the H11 is durable and reliable. To hold this kind of extreme test activity, presumably the manufacturer is also fully sure, the result is naturally no suspense.

On the whole, Haima H11 can be regarded as an excellent product among independent brands, and in some respects it is also close to a joint venture product. Of course, there are still many areas for improvement as a whole. We are very happy to see such excellent products from domestic independent manufacturers, but we are also worried. At present, the core competitiveness of domestic independent manufacturers is still relatively low prices, and Haima wants to break this pattern, starting from product quality, dare to use advanced technology, and face joint venture products. When the quality goes up, the cost is naturally not low. The price of Haima 3 is higher than that of its own-brand products at the same level, and there is no obvious price advantage compared to joint venture products. Whether you want quality or price, this is indeed a problem that independent manufacturers have to face. When other manufacturers compromise on price, Haima has to stand up and be the first to eat crabs. (Text, picture/Auto House Wang Kugong)
