Rapid iteration of multiple systems on the car, Chinese brands lead the smart upsurge
According to statistical data, Chinese brand models accounted for 65.71% of the test system, and our smart car connection test is based on different network connection systems as the opening conditions. In other words, regardless of the brand or model, as long as a different in-vehicle system is adopted, it will be included in the test scope.
The large majority of Chinese branded models are due to the adoption of different in-vehicle systems, or a large version iteration in a short period of time. For example, SAIC MG and SAIC Roewe, from Zebra 2.0 to MARS 3.0, and now the latest VENUS, “three types” on-board systems appeared in less than two years. Another example is Changan CS75 PLUS and Changan CS95, although they belong to the Changan brand, but they use Wutong Autolink and the Flying Fish OS of HKUST respectively. Overseas brands are slightly conservative at the level of car-linked applications. Only a small number of brands actively cooperate with local car-linked solution providers to create smart car-linked products suitable for Chinese people's habits.
From the previous data, it can be seen that the intelligent network connection system of Chinese brands has obvious advantages compared with overseas brands, and it is more suitable for the needs of Chinese users. So if you look at the dimensions of the test, what is the trend of the intelligent networked system configured for the models sold in my country? Let's start with the interaction between people and vehicles. At this stage, the so-called human-vehicle interaction is actually the carrier of communication between people and vehicles. This carrier can be screens, meters, voices, buttons or even HUDs. So how do these manifestations behave?
Under the central control screen, the first scoring dimension is the system style. To put it simply, it is whether the main interface, UI, and icons of the entire on-board system are beautiful and whether they are consistent with the positioning of the whole vehicle. For example, it is clearly a model in “Cyberpunk 2077”. Open the car to see that the central control interface is a minimalist design of Apple style. There is another situation that the system interface, icons, and UI are relatively popular. For example, the music icon in the car system. You may feel familiar on every Android phone, but the music icon of some models is designed ingeniously. Then we It will be given the highest score.
Judging from the current test data of 69 models, 70% of the models are at the level of “beautiful interface/icons”, while the higher-level “interface/icon design is integrated with the vehicle style” only 24 % Of the models did it .
At the interactive level, we define the six categories of local music, Bluetooth music, online music, online radio, local radio, and navigation as high-frequency just-needed applications. If you can quickly use these six applications in the vehicle system, you will get the corresponding score. . From the test data, it can be seen that 93% of the models can meet high-frequency rigid demand applications quickly and directly . Only 7% of the models have lost points at the interactive level. Some of the 7% of the models lose points because of the lack of online entertainment functions, and a very small number of models are caused by the hidden deep bluetooth music. .
From the overall data point of view, the vast majority of in-vehicle systems have touched the ceiling in the interactive hierarchical design of the above-mentioned six types of high-frequency rigid applications. Only a few models have lost points because one or two functional hierarchies are hidden. In fact, it’s really not easy to settle the controversial Bluetooth music car companies. The product manager thinks that my online entertainment music library is so rich. Why do you still insist on Bluetooth music? Users often think that they are connected to Bluetooth in the car. It is very convenient to directly play your favorite playlist. In the face of such controversies, more and more manufacturers choose to make a fuss about the layout of the central control interface. The most direct and effective way is to customize the interface.
The so-called custom interface is to support the placement of the application icons you need in a one-touch position to avoid interaction problems caused by different user habits. In addition, in addition to the custom interface, some car companies are also accustomed to reserve a custom button in the multi-function steering wheel area, and the needs of entertainment and navigation applications can also be quickly and directly reached by one button.
In the context of the rapid development of intelligent networking, the central control screen has also been given more functions, and this has also caused the screen to have problems such as reflections, freezes, slow response, severe heat, and smear. According to our test data, screen ratio does not exist any mishap only 65.71%, still more than the presence of a flawed 32.83% of the in-vehicle system screen. The problem is mainly focused on the problem of light reflection. Although the mirror glass covered by the screen looks very advanced, it will affect the use at a specific angle and light. In view of the reflection problem, some car companies have alleviated the problem by changing the inclination of the central control screen, adopting full-fit technology, and adding a “hat” to the screen.
In terms of the quality of the central control screen, we divide it into three levels. Subjective evaluations are made according to the material, the width and thickness of the frame, and the overall workmanship. The results show that about 64.2% of the on-board systems are concentrated at a medium “good” level. Most of the in-vehicle systems that have reached the “excellent” level are from overseas brands, such as BMW X7, Model X, Range Rover Evoque, and Audi A6L . Although they are not good at localized functions, almost all those who participated in the evaluation gave it. “Excellent” evaluation. Of course, among Chinese brand models, such as BYD Han, Hongqi HS5, Boyue PRO and other models, have received “excellent” reviews on the quality of the central control screen . But overall, overseas brands dominate the quality of the central control screen, while the quality of the central control screen of Chinese brands is mainly concentrated in the “good” category.
In terms of the size and definition of the central control screen, it is definitely better to have a high resolution with a large screen. However, at the current stage where autonomous driving has not yet landed, we will set a threshold for the calculation of the score for the screen size. When the size exceeds the threshold, the score will only increase slightly. At the level of clarity, at the beginning of setting the standard, we obtained the corresponding PPI through a large number of vehicle data surveys, so as to evaluate the score.
From the test data, the screen size is mainly concentrated in 12.3 inches, and a slightly smaller one is about 10 inches. Of course, some models use 8-inch screens, but regardless of the score or subjective experience, the screen size of this size is slightly smaller. The operation is not very convenient. As for the large-size screen, most models choose the vertical screen to increase the size. At the corresponding level of definition, most manufacturers adhere to the concept that the PPI cannot be low regardless of the size of the screen, which is basically concentrated in the range of 141-275, and the resolution is basically 1080P and 720P. Of course, the resolution of models such as ES6 exceeds 1080P. .
It seems that from the day when the intelligent network was born, voice control has developed rapidly. At first, at the level of consumer electronic products, voice control was only used as a fresh object to entertain people’s lives, but with the combination of voice control and cars, It not only changes people's interaction habits in the car, but also improves the attention when driving, reduces the number of times the gaze moves to the center control panel, and effectively improves driving safety. In our evaluation criteria, we divide voice control into four dimensions: recognition rate, key functions, partition recognition, and partial wake-up. Next, let us take a look at the rules of the four dimensions of the models we have tested.
In the recognition rate test, we conducted tests through different working conditions of fixed phonetics. From the results and actual test experience, the recognition rate of almost most systems can reach more than 80%, and it will only appear under noisy working conditions. Unrecognized situation once or twice. Compared with the past, each link from radio reception, semantic processing, and information feedback has been greatly improved.
If the recognition rate is just a stepping stone to voice control, then interrupting the voice broadcast, context semantic cohesion, and continuous speaking are advanced levels. The relationship between the two is like the relationship between English Level 3 and CET4. These three functions can effectively improve the user's stickiness to voice control, reduce interaction time, and improve communication efficiency. The test results show that only 25.71% of these functions exist on the same system at the same time, and nearly 15% of the systems do not have any functions, while the other 60% of the systems only have 1-2 functions. For today's rapid development of intelligent networks, the lack of these three functions is indeed a bit of a hindrance.
From the actual experience, if you do not have the interruption broadcast, you need to listen to the lengthy road planning when setting the navigation information; if you do not have the contextual semantics, you need to add the subject, predicate, and object when you ask for the needs. Say it all; if you don’t have continuous speaking, you must wake up the voice assistant every time you ask for a request. These functions are designed to reduce the interaction level and interaction time as much as possible, so that users can act like physical/touch buttons when using voice. It's as simple as that. Obviously, our intelligent network connection still has some way to catch up in terms of the main voice function.
Compared with the recognition rate and voice function, the voice partition recognition can be regarded as the level of CET6. Compared with ordinary voice control, it is more complicated in hardware and algorithm. From the test data, currently less than 50% of the systems that have this function and can give feedback, only 20% of the systems have the three functions of raising and lowering windows, adjusting temperature, and seat heating/ventilation. Most of the other systems are not equipped with heating/ventilation and zoned air-conditioning due to the vehicle configuration, and the window lift function is more often without control authority.
If recognition rate, voice function, and partition are the basic points in the exam, then partial wake-up is like a bonus question. In order to allow users to reduce interaction steps in scenarios such as navigation, music, and air conditioning, a partial wake-up-free function has emerged. The driver can realize simple operations such as zoom in/out the map, play/pause music, increase/decrease the temperature, etc. in the corresponding scene through fixed phrases. At the same time, due to the difference between hardware capabilities and software algorithms, most systems do not have high functional applicability in order to prevent false triggers.
It is not difficult to see the restraint of manufacturers from the test data. In the standard partial awakening-free test, only 10% of the systems have passed all the tests, and nearly 30% of the systems do not have the partial awakening-free function at all. Although most manufacturers have exercised restraint, as a pioneer in the voice industry, iFLYTEK has brought non-full-time wake-up and more abnormal full-duplex to the car environment, creating some models that perform in the voice field. .
Compared with the richness of voice, our evaluation dimension for physical/touch buttons in the car is much less, mainly to evaluate the layout and feedback of the buttons. The physical/touch buttons are the main interactive tools before the voice. The company’s experience is very rich, but from the results, about 20% of on-board systems still have problems with the button layout. From our actual experience, the problem is mainly concentrated on the virtual buttons of the central control screen, or touch buttons. And because of the emergence of the central control panel, the location and layout of the air-conditioning buttons and central control panel control buttons have become headaches for architects, and this is where we encounter the most problems.
Regarding button feedback, we recognize that buttons can provide feedback to users through touch/listening/visualization. From the results, 61% of the systems reached this level. The remaining systems are more or less missing. In addition, although some systems have three sensory feedback, they have problems such as harsh sound and overly obvious touch that affect the sense of experience.
At the dashboard level, we mainly focus on the size and display effect of the instrument. We divide it according to three types of meters: full liquid crystal, semi liquid crystal, and ordinary, and comprehensively integrate common meter sizes, and give each scoring standard. According to test data, more than half of the on-board systems use full LCD meters of 12 inches and above, but there are still 10% of systems that use ordinary monochrome meters below 6 inches.
In terms of display effects, although more than half of the systems use large-size full LCD instruments, only 14% of the systems get full marks in terms of display effects: information layout, interface design, and flaws. In actual experience, a problem that often arises in instrument display effects is the layout of key information. Some key information will distract the driver too much; in addition, some instrument design styles are too conservative and are somewhat out of touch with vehicle positioning and interior design.
In the TOP5 list at the human-computer interaction level, we can see that traditional Chinese car companies, new car companies and overseas brands are involved. Whether it is a local tradition or a new creation, the reason why they are famous on the list is nothing more than better hardware and better interactive experience, and overseas brands can be said to rely on the ultimate hardware to enhance their competitiveness. Of course, this There is a strong correlation with the selling price. On the whole, full LCD instrumentation, 12.3-inch or more central control screen and good voice capabilities are a vital part of the current intelligent cockpit human-vehicle interaction level.
Whether it is smart car testing or other fields, a good foundation and a good skin can't be called an advanced level. Only with the corresponding performance or acting skills can you be called an artist. So after talking about the human-vehicle interaction in the previous article, let's talk about what these 69 models have in common at the level of functional realization.
For a long period of time, the level of the Internet of Vehicles for domestic passenger cars has remained at the stage of the Internet of Recreational Vehicles. That is to say, the car system is only listening to music and listening to the radio for drivers and passengers, but it has to be said that navigation, listening to music and listening to the radio in the car are indeed the most high-frequency functions, and other additional functions can change the era of entertainment car networking. , But in terms of current driving assistance applications, we may still need to wander for a while in the era of entertainment car networking.
In addition to regular local music, Bluetooth music, and radio, we mainly consider whether the vehicle system has online music, online radio stations, and high-quality online music in the test. From the test data, the online music and online radio functions of Chinese brands and Korean models have reached 100%. This is not unrelated to China’s local Internet of Vehicles solution providers. It is they who spare no effort to promote the development of China’s smart industry. , So that, such as Korean models, actively integrate with the domestic vehicle networking ecology, so that the online entertainment system in Korean cars has reached 100%.
Data shows that the adoption rate of American cars has reached 81.8%. Almost most American cars will be integrated into the domestic entertainment ecology. Although the hierarchy is deep, it is always a good thing for users. In contrast to European and Japanese cars, the adoption rate of online entertainment applications is only about 30%, and Japanese brand models do not have high-quality online music. From the overall data point of view, the adoption rate of online entertainment applications is gradually increasing, and the adoption rate of high-quality music accounts for only half.
With the emergence of a new way of interacting with voice, more and more manufacturers have expanded them to control corresponding applications. According to our scoring standard, the entertainment system control method greater than 6 points is basically the credit of the voice, which accounts for 71.43%. Among them, nearly 44.29% obtained full marks through voice control. And full marks are not exclusive to Chinese brands. After embracing the domestic car networking ecology, American and European models also delivered full marks.
Among all the models we tested, only Ideal ONE has prepared an independent audio-visual system for the co-pilot. The vast majority of the system’s approach is to have a screen in the middle. As for who gets the initiative, it depends entirely on the individual. Of course, some systems will have a certain tilt for the co-pilot passengers in the physical button settings. For example, the buttons on the right side of the screen or the buttons behind the handle, or even the partition voice control mentioned above, can facilitate the control of the co-pilot passengers. Central control screen, but if you want to enjoy it exclusively, you can’t do it yet.
Car navigation has come as early as the era of intelligent network connection, so it is not difficult for any brand to achieve very basic navigation functions such as real-time road conditions, multi-finger zoom, location collection, and path preference. The most obvious change at the navigation level is that navigation applications led by BAT have launched the function of setting license plate numbers to help drivers set routes to avoid restricted areas. The projection of navigation information to the instrument is the most common operation, and about 78% of the systems support projection to the instrument. However, even if it is projected to the instrument, the performance of each company is very different. There are full-screen displays and partial projections, and the effects are even more different.
The HUD projection deployment rate is limited by the configuration impact, and the application rate of this function is not high due to the small number of models equipped with HUD. And from the perspective of implementation effects, simple arrows are not beautiful except for prompts. Compared with the previous two, AR real-world navigation is even rarer. Only the five models of Xingtu TXL, Xingtu LX, Venus Star, Weimar EX5, and Roewe MARVEL X are available, but the location of the AR real-world navigation projection is also divided into The instrument and the central control are still some distance away from the AR-HUD real-time navigation effect of the new S.
Similar to the entertainment system, we rely more on voice control in navigation control methods, but only 33% of the systems that can get full marks on navigation control through voice control. From the perspective of country distribution, Chinese brands are far ahead, and a certain proportion of American and European models have also obtained full marks. In comparison, Japan and South Korea still need to strengthen the voice control of navigation.
What are the problems with systems that do not get full marks? In fact, at this stage, everyone has done a perfect job in setting destinations through voice, changing route preferences, adding POI points of interest, and even natural semantic understanding (I'm hungry-navigating restaurants). However, there are still some flaws in multi-keyword recognition in some navigation scenarios. For example, there is no access to information such as hotel star ratings and restaurant prices, which causes users to be blocked when planning a restaurant path within a certain price range.
In terms of the difficulty of navigation, 77% of the systems have been evaluated as “easy to use”. But there are still some systems whose navigation is not so perfect. With the advent of the touch screen era, it has become much simpler to operate and navigate through virtual buttons compared to the operation of physical buttons in the past. But the “not easy to use” point is that the hierarchy logic is messy or users need higher learning and communication costs.
In our daily life, we may often come into contact with the mobile navigation products of the three major BAT image providers. After we are familiar with the corresponding operations, if the hierarchical logic is disrupted, users need to familiarize themselves with a certain function in the early stage. It feels like, you are used to Android and suddenly let you use IOS, you need high learning costs to adapt to it.
In terms of parking image clarity, many models in China, the United States, Japan, and Europe have obtained full marks. In terms of the ratio, the U.S. and European models have a higher percentage of full marks in day and night clarity, although Chinese brands The full score ratio of models also has certain advantages, but there are still models that have received the lowest evaluation, and in terms of night effects, Chinese brand models have no advantage.
In terms of the switching speed of parking images, a small number of models of Chinese brands have dragged their feet, while other Chinese, American, Japanese, Korean, and European models all got full marks. In fact, most models do a good job of switching speeds of parking images, and can make some redundant designs. Even when switching to D gear, the image can still be maintained for about 2 seconds, which is convenient for the driver to observe the four road conditions. In terms of innovative functions, Chinese brands are obviously better, including 360° surround view, independent viewing of four directions, transparent chassis and other functions. The carrying rate of Chinese brands is significantly higher than that of overseas brands.
At the communication level, the function of answering/making calls has been 100% popular, and the more distinctive feature is the function of sending and receiving short messages. According to statistics, the functions of receiving and sending short messages are mainly concentrated on American and European models. However, judging from the usage habits of domestic users, short messages are being forgotten by people, which also discourages most car companies from the function of short messages on the car.
Since Tencent launched the concept of in-vehicle WeChat, whether it is regular army or guerrilla has put WeChat products on the car, of course, due to different product implementation methods, the experience varies. From the data point of view, Chinese brands have a certain adoption rate. What is more surprising is that the US models have the courage to adopt early adopters at the level of instant messaging, but other models have not yet been involved. In terms of communication control methods, all models can meet voice calls, but voice hang-up cannot be 100%. In addition, it is limited by the test of sending and receiving text messages in the test sentence. Among them, Chinese brand models are still It accounts for the majority, and models of all countries are on the list.
With the diversification of interior design, the display of air-conditioning information can really be a headache for designers and on-board system product managers. When setting standards, we respect the hierarchical logic that can be seen/adjusted in one step. It not only satisfies people's just needs, but also reduces the risk of distraction. From the statistical data, a total of 75% of the models got full marks. Among these full-point models, although Chinese brands win by volume, overseas brands should be ahead if the full-point rate is calculated.
Overseas brands are very traditional. Air-conditioning information settings and button design are quite satisfactory. On the other hand, Chinese brands, taking advantage of the smart car linkage, the display and adjustment of the air-conditioning information area are becoming more and more beautiful, but whether it is permanent display or adjustment , There are some drawbacks, but these drawbacks can also be solved by voice.
The system function control method is mainly to evaluate the function control including air-conditioning, sunroof, car window, trunk, etc. Because most car companies control the authority of car control functions, these functions cannot be realized completely through voice. The scoring method of “high value”, the models that get full marks in this part are mainly realized through physicaltouch buttons. The loss sub-items are also mainly concentrated on air conditioning control and trunk opening.
Thanks to the development of smart car associations, the control of vehicles through mobile apps has gained widespread popularity. The vast majority of models have five basic far-field control functions: remote unlocking, temperature control, remote start, whistle/flashing lights, and location checking. Among them, Korean and Chinese brands have a higher adoption rate.
OTA is no longer a new term. Among the tested models, models with OTA capabilities account for 90%. Among them, the proportion of Chinese, American, and Japanese models with OTA is very high, and the European models are also more than 50%. However, Japanese cars have lost ground in this project, and OTA is still a little out of reach for them.
The mapping function is definitely the greatest contempt for the car system product manager. If an in-car system is good enough, consumers don't need to connect to their mobile phones to enjoy the shade of intelligent networking. According to the data, the carrying rate of CarPlay functions is 22%, most of which are overseas brands, the carrying rate of CarLife is 35%, and overseas brands account for 45.8%.
In the part of human-vehicle interaction and function realization, we set additional points. From the overall data, 27.94% of the models are equipped with the recorder, 23.53% of the models are equipped with wireless charging, and 16.18% of the models are equipped with HUD. At the functional level, 10.29% of models are equipped with biometric technology (including voiceprint recognition). Although some models have biometrics, there is a big gap in experience. In the functionally realized TOP5, Chinese brand traditional car companies occupy four seats. Obviously, from the perspective of experience, traditional car companies have certain advantages. The largest and most extensive item in the service ecosystem is payment for life. We expect that in-vehicle systems, in addition to entertainment and navigation functions, can also provide some pan-life services and can be highly integrated with the vehicle, such as booking tickets through the in-vehicle system Automatically generate reminders and navigation route planning; even when the vehicle is opened through the relevant application account, it will recommend the cuisine you like near the destination when traveling. Of course, judging from most current models, there are still relatively few that can really do this. .
From the score point of view, in addition to the vast majority of Chinese brands, American and European models are also involved in the life payment level, but if they can be called good, only about 9% of the models have achieved this, and this is 9%. With the deep integration of the Internet and automobiles, such rescue services that require manual customer service intervention are gradually decreasing. In terms of carrying rate, overseas brands have completely surpassed Chinese brands, with the lowest carrying rate above 67%. In contrast, the carrying rate of Chinese brands is only 58%.
From the statistical point of view, the proportion of realizing App maintenance appointments is more, and the car system side is less. Judging from the results of the tested models, about half of the models have smart hardware, and the system that gets full marks benefits from more adaptable hardware. However, if proceeding from a practical point of view, it is more practical to realize the automatic switch of air conditioning and lights in the home through the combination of electronic fence and on-board system. But as for the interconnection of household appliances such as washing machines and gas stoves with cars, it is a bit ridiculous.

The level of communication favorability has always been the specialty of Chinese brands. Whether in terms of logical algorithm or virtual image, Chinese brand models have an absolute advantage. Thanks to the attitude of actively embracing the domestic ecology, the voice interaction of Chinese brand models is more natural and more “intelligent”. Whether it is a voice packet or an interactive mechanism, people can be completely separated from the mechanical sense.
