Generally speaking, the headlight assembly of a model is provided by two-tier suppliers, namely first-tier and second-tier, and companies such as Osram are the second-tier suppliers, that is, the supply of light sources. Regardless of whether you are halogen headlights, LED headlights, or xenon lamps (there are almost no orders for xenon lamps in the pre-installation market), Osram is the provider of that root: light.

Moving forward, there is a light source, but there is still a lack of lamps, including a series of modeling designs, reflective structures, etc. At this time, HELLA and other companies have played a huge role. They applied the light source to their own lamps and finally made them. From this perspective, the finished product of the headlight assembly, HELLA can be regarded as one of the standard lamp factories for car headlights, while companies like Osram belong to the lamp factory behind the lamp factory, because often its light source is not only supplied to a certain lamp factory. I want to ask: Will halogen lamps die?

Not for the time being. Compared with today's LED headlights and xenon lamps, the advantages of halogen lamps have almost disappeared, but don't forget that it still has a killer advantage: cost! Even in the field of fog lamps, which used to be good at, with the growth of LED technology, low color temperature and high penetration are no longer a problem. According to Osram's forecast, it is estimated that by 2025, halogen lamps will still maintain a 40% market share.

Models of less than 100,000 yuan can already achieve full LED headlights. It is nothing new that all cars are halogen-free. Early car companies may distinguish from low halogens, high xenon lamps or LEDs, but as LEDs mature And the cost continues to decrease, and it will soon be so low that consumers are not aware of it. At that time, I believe that the national LED is affirmative, and it also has advantages for the layout of the product line of car companies. The big deal is the function of LED. High and low configuration is distinguished, but if you still use halogen lamps at this time, it is two systems, which is actually not conducive to cost control. And there is still a saying that a direct-plug front-mounted LED bulb may also replace halogen lamps and become a symbol of low-profile models.

Does the standard LED really represent “justice”?

In today's new passenger car market, no LED headlights in the entire series seem to be embarrassed to go public. As the price range of models equipped with LED headlights is gradually dropping, we see that even models with tens of thousands of yuan can be equipped with LED headlights. I remember that the first mass-produced car equipped with LEDs was the 07 Lexus LS600h, and the Audi R8 was the carrier of the first all-LED headlights. I am very happy as a consumer during the nearly ten years of automotive lighting development. Seeing that LED headlights are no longer exclusive to luxury cars, they have begun to embrace “civilians”. But whether this embrace is like the pseudo-Manchukuo under the thinking of the “Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Circle”, we still have to draw a question mark.

It is true that the advantages of LEDs have been said to be “bad”. But from the beginning of the car home headlight test, we have found a very interesting pattern. The frequency of LED headlights is getting higher and higher, but the low-beam illumination effect is very different. Whether the tube is the optical structure of a reflective bowl or a lens, it is everywhere. It wasn't until my colleague used the long-test car imported Volkswagen Weilan to do a headlight test, and the subversive conclusion appeared again. The configuration of this low-profile Weilan headlight can no longer be simpler. If you look at this headlight alone, you can hardly imagine that it comes from an imported car with more than 200,000 yuan. Halogen bulb + reflective bowl, at least it loses its appearance.

From the comparison of actual measurement data, we find that there is a significant gap between the models using LED light sources and Weilan. So back to the original question, does LED represent justice? As far as the low beam is concerned, the advantages of the LED light source are obvious. The volume, life and luminous flux are by no means comparable to halogens, but the basis for guaranteeing this premise is that the LED light source is a “regular army”, and the current domestic mainstream LED light source supply The suppliers are Osram, Philips, etc., followed by many domestic manufacturers. However, in the field of pre-installation, the choice of suppliers and grades of products is one of the important factors that determine the illumination effect. Another factor is the optical structure design of the lamp. The wattage, the number of lamp beads and the method of lamp group matching directly determine the final illumination effect. 3 LEDs can meet 1000 lumens illuminance, 5 LEDs, 10 LEDs, and 15 LEDs can meet the requirements. This also involves driving. The difference in heat dissipation system, etc. is ultimately reflected in the completely different irradiation effect. Otherwise, do you think that the standard LED headlights of 100,000 yuan can be exactly the same or almost the same as the standard 500,000 yuan?

Reflective bowl or lens which is better “argument”

Although LED light sources have made great contributions to the styling and miniaturization of headlights, there are still some controversies in terms of actual lighting effects. Some consumers recognize lens headlights and think that lens headlights have better condensing properties, while some It supports the LED headlights with reflective structure, and believes that the light efficiency is better, and the reflection efficiency is close to that of the halogen lamp. In the end, who will become the next trend, we can take this to explore.

The development of front-mounted LED headlights has been moving towards miniaturization and high-efficiency. It is completely different from the reflective lighting characteristics of the halogen lamp era. The smaller the light-emitting area, the more conducive to the control of reflection and concentrating performance. It also has a lot of advantages. Under such a premise, although there are still reflective LED headlights today, they are completely different from the reflective bowl halogen lights of the year. And even if the reflective structure is adopted, it depends on the specific design and cannot be judged by the halogen era standards.

As time goes by, arranging the LED lamp beads directly forward, using the direct method and adding the lens seems to have become a new trend in the domestic market, because with the blessing of the lens, the glare problem existing in the reflective structure can be better controlled. With better light-gathering, coupled with the continuous improvement of LED particles in efficiency, energy consumption and volume, whether it is “appearance” or “justice”, it has it all. In addition, the lens structure of the headlights often makes people look bright and full of grade feeling, which is quite favored by domestic consumers.

In fact, there is no absolute answer to which reflective structure or lens structure is better, because it involves many aspects such as styling, cost, and car companies’ concept of headlights. For example, Japanese and Korean cars like to use reflective LED headlights. Often the number of lamp beads is not high, and the wattage is not high. In this way, the heat dissipation part can be reduced accordingly, which can significantly reduce the cost while obtaining a good appearance and sufficient performance, which is very good. The European and American models have their own understanding of headlight miniaturization, and some thin lens designs with squinted eyes have become the label of this part of the car company. Finally, look at the domestic market. The lighting can also be realized, and the unique luminous characteristics have attracted countless eyes and popularity for a time.

Speaking of the application prospects of OLED, in the mouths of several engineers we interviewed, it seems that everyone is not very optimistic about its prospects in the field of headlights. At least this is the case at this stage. In the field of interior lighting, everyone is very optimistic about OLED. A variety of technologies including TFT, AMOLED and AMOLED are quite anticipated, even the OLED taillights of BMW M4 and Audi TTRS are provided by them.

The biggest feature of OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) is that it is a flat light source with uniform light emission, which is different from the traditional point light source (LED). The current LED glare and glare problems we encounter can be better in the OLED era. The solution, and a softer light source is also a better choice for driving safety.

In addition, OLED is lighter and thinner, and can be transparent when it does not emit light, and has better response speed and balance. Because of its own almost no heat and unique light-emitting characteristics, the traditional reflective structure can be omitted and greatly improved. In addition to the plasticity of lamps, with the release of flexible OLEDs, it will have greater possibilities in shape.

As you may all know, the development direction and product requirements of exterior lamps and interior lamps are not the same. Interior lamps are more in the RGB field, that is, color, including brightness and uniformity, in meeting “visual needs In the field, OLED has great advantages, and the environment of the interior is much more constant than that of the exterior, and it faces far fewer weather resistance challenges. It is precisely because of this that many light source technologies including OLED technology are likely to set off another wave in the field of interior lighting in the future.

It is said that Osram-based companies are planning to push the latest RGBi technology to the vehicle field. Its unique wiring harness-free design can better alleviate the delay and synchronization problems of interior atmosphere lights. The scheme of arranging OLED on the back of the decorative skin and more intelligent interior lighting schemes with “personal mood” may become one of the labels of many future models. Look at the exterior, which is the field of taillights (OLED can not be used as headlights, the smaller the luminous point of the headlights, the better, OLED is just the opposite), life (low temperature), price, and yield are currently faced by OLEDs in the exterior field The biggest constraint, weather resistance has once again become the most intuitive topic, and the high requirements of car-level regulations have brought great challenges to OLED exterior lamps. As for the M4 and TTRS, it is only because these models belong to the needs of small-volume niche areas after all, which are relatively easy to meet. If they are put into the mass market, the problems mentioned above are still the current problems. However, this does not mean that OLED has no room for progress in the field of exterior lighting. In addition to Osram, there are still some other lighting companies that have continued investment in this area.

Laser headlights: and OLED are called “difficult brothers”

Will laser headlights become popular? There are many opinions about this problem. From the application level, it does have its characteristics. The surface brightness is very high and the volume is small. Whether it is used as a far and near light or an auxiliary light, it has its application space, just like an OLED light source. The characteristics are very bright, the application prospects are very good, but they also face some temporary embarrassment, so I like to describe them as “difficult brothers.”

In China, the car companies that dare to invest in mass production of laser headlights are only a few on the spire. For more car companies, instead of talking about lasers, it is better to use various LED lighting, RGB ambient lights, welcome lights and other fields. Invest more and spend less money, but it can make consumers feel the changes and coolness more intuitively. Although laser headlights have many advantages, they are still determined by market demand. 1024 is not just an old driver: high-resolution ADB may become a headlight home

    Finally, let’s take a look at the current trend of headlights in the front-end part. From the plans disclosed by Osram, the field of automotive headlights will develop in four directions in the future, and these four directions also correspond to cars with different positioning and different grades. Nowadays, in the field of visualized high-pixel headlights, three representative technologies have appeared: Osram’s EVIYOS, Texas Instruments’ DLP, and HELLA’s AOCD. The three technologies are all moving towards LED high-pixelization. The directions are not all the same. Or to put it another way, you can understand it as: high-pixel headlight technology, their source of inspiration actually comes from the projector, so you may be easier to understand the effects they achieve, right! In this era of justice, the appearance of EVIYOS has clearly brought new definitions to car headlight lighting. Next is about the after-installation market. During this trip, we learned that Osram has recently launched a direct plug-in LED bulb. Uh, you heard it right, it is indeed a direct plug-in LED, and the corresponding upgrade object is the reflector. Type halogen lamp and lens type halogen lamp. Upgrading headlights without lenses is a rogue. Osram has admitted this before. Is it possible that this cognition is going to be overturned this time?

What role does the in-line LED play?

Halogen high-brightness and in-line LEDs are the most cost-effective in the aftermarket headlight upgrades, and they are also the lowest in price, and the quantity is also large. Although there are many people complaining, such as the limited improvement of high-brightness halogens, and the glare of in-line LEDs. Wait, but the actual situation is that the volume and demand of this market are not low, especially in small cities, halogen highlight upgrades are very common, the price is low, and the effect is justified, while the direct plug-in LED is some people who are not willing to spend a lot of money to upgrade. I personally guess that it is also based on market demand that Osram will suddenly launch this type of product. After all, in terms of upgrade effects, in-line LEDs are definitely better than bright halogens, and in terms of profit, the terminal must also like it better. This product. It is obviously more appropriate to use it to replace the position of the high-brightness halogen lamp.

Of course, as a light source supplier, Osram is also very aware of the problem of direct plug-in LEDs, so I learned in subsequent consultations that first of all, they did launch this product according to market demand, and secondly, this product was designed At that time, it has been specially adjusted and optimized to make it better fit in the lamp bowl structure, and try to be close to the characteristics of the original car's halogen headlights in the reflection effect. The scolding battle between xenon lamps and LED headlights: heroes of different eras

In the current aftermarket, lighting upgrades can basically be divided into three categories: the first category is upgrades through high-brightness halogen lamps and direct plug-in LEDs. Such users often do not have much demand for lighting upgrades, and they are better than original candles. Cost upgrade is king. The second is the upgraded group of xenon lamps, which is also the most mature solution at present, with moderate investment and the best effect! As for the upgrade of LED assembly, it is mainly focused on domestic brands. Compared with the upgrade of xenon lamps, these products are much simpler. The lens, light source, chip, and heat dissipation are all provided for you. A full set of replacements can be inserted. LED headlights are not too tight to change. As for the effect, the brightness and color temperature may not be better than the xenon lamp scheme, but its own advantages are also obvious. There is no motor for dimming, no jamming, and no delay when starting in 0 seconds. And with the rapid iteration of LED technology, the effect of upgrading these LED assemblies is also approaching xenon lamps step by step.

“LED currently can reach 300 lumens for a single lamp, and about 3,200 lumens for a xenon lamp with 35 watts.” That is to say, an LED with ten lamp beads can basically reach the brightness level of a xenon lamp. LED auxiliary lights: the dark horse in the outdoor self-driving market?

I was really surprised when I heard that Osram was preparing to introduce the auxiliary lamp products widely used in overseas markets to the Chinese market. After all, for an enterprise like Osram that gave the impression of a more “regular army”, I suddenly talked about on road assistance. Lights and offroad auxiliary lights are always full of infinite curiosity, not to mention that the current upgrade of such lights is still in the gray stage in China.
