[YesAuto Connected Travel] Long ago, Chinese mobile phone SMS boxes have been reduced to verification code “distribution centers” and spam “landfills”, WeChat actually bears the responsibility of people's daily communication tools.
Since last year, we have seen more and more models begin to carry and promote on-board WeChat functions. Under this general trend, what we want to know is: How many car owners need to use WeChat to send and receive messages on the road? Can the voice-controlled in-vehicle WeChat really bring convenience and better safety to these car owners?
People's attitudes towards WeChat in vehicles
Earlier, we conducted a questionnaire survey on WeChat in the station, and the results showed that among the interviewed users, 74% of users have daily needs to send and reply to WeChat messages in the car .
And if the vehicle has a built-in voice-controlled on-board WeChat function, more than 60% of people are willing to try it . From these data, we can see that despite many discussions, the need to use WeChat is objective. The purpose of in-vehicle WeChat should be to make it safer for drivers to use WeChat in the car.
In-vehicle WeChat itself is not a “new” thing. As far as communication is concerned, quite a few domestic and foreign models support sending and receiving text messages via voice.
Three cars with three collocations
In order to explore the current level of on-board WeChat functions, we borrowed three representative models with on-board WeChat functions- Jiangling Ford Territory S, Trumpchi GS4 Coupe and New Baojun RM-5 .
Including Xinbaojun and Weimar, the current mainstream third-party in-vehicle WeChat is usually customized based on the PC version of WeChat or WeChat’s disabled model . Simply put, it is to simulate the tap operation of a human hand in the hot zone through voice control, and realize the main function of controlling WeChat through voice.
Functional comparison test
Based on this, our test project is also developed around these points, hoping to restore the situation encountered in daily life as much as possible. Here we watch the video first, to show it more intuitively.
Do you prefer to send voice or text?
Since the suffix cannot be modified or deleted by the user's settings, it is estimated that no one will like this careful thought too much except for the diehard fans of the new Baojun brand.
A very good function is that after the message is sent, we can directly say “withdraw” to realize the function of withdrawing the message, which is equivalent to “two insurances” to avoid sending messages by mistake.
On the official WeChat version of Trumpchi GS4 Coupe and Ford Territory S, if you say “send a message” directly after speaking the voice content, the system will immediately send the information out; and if you don’t say it after saying the content “Send a message” is just waiting, a few seconds later the system will confirm to you again “whether to send the message to someone”.
Can you still grab a red envelope by voice?
When multiple messages are sent at the same time, the messages will be displayed in sequence. After the first message is broadcast, reply, etc., the next message is displayed. You can also take the initiative to view unread messages by saying “View unread messages” through voice control.
Of course, because there is a certain delay in the news, if it is the kind of red envelope that the boss sends in the group to grab the red envelope within 1 second, you should not expect to use the car WeChat to grab it. If you happen to be driving, you should accept your fate and make money by “moving bricks” without shame.
Can receive positioning messages and set up navigation
We found a small bug on Ford Territory S: When we send a voice call invitation to others, although we will ask “Are you sure to dial?”, but often before you finish saying “OK”, the system has automatically dialed On the one hand, it makes people a little confused, and at the same time it loses the meaning of secondary confirmation.
At this stage, Trumpchi GS4 Coupe and Territory S, which use the official WeChat version of the car, do not support sending their current location to others, while the new Baojun RM-5 supports sharing their location.
We believe that there are more functions that can be tapped based on voice and location, such as “walkie-talkies” for group travel, online tools for real-time location sharing, and on-board WeChat. Many systems and on-board map applications have been implemented in these aspects. Try, the car WeChat should also make good use of its own advantages and expand the scope of use, which is what we expect.
In general, the official WeChat is simple to set up, easy to use, and the UI interface is refreshing and bright. Of course, there are still some functional imperfections that need to be further filled in.
In contrast, the third-party WeChat voice response of the new Baojun RM-5 is faster, and it also solves some of the pain points of the official version, and adds some interesting small functions (such as grabbing red envelopes). But it also has its own problems, such as the inability to make and receive WeChat voice calls, and the iPhone cannot be used (in the new Baojun RS-3 version, the iPhone can already use some functions) and other issues.
Car WeChat has just started. It is currently very easy to use in most scenarios, but it is not perfect. We will definitely encounter disturbing places in daily use. We can understand it, but we also hope that whether it is Tencent official or the disabled Third-party programs developed in mode and tablet mode are getting closer and closer to perfection, allowing users while driving to obtain a more convenient and safer real-time communication experience, thereby benefiting consumers.
Remember our questionnaire, the last question of the questionnaire is: Do you think if you change cars in the next few years, whether the on-board WeChat function will be a factor that affects your change? It's a pity that none of the users who participated in the questionnaire survey made it clear: I want to buy the next car with a WeChat function. But at the same time, we see that about 52% of the interviewed users said that the on-board WeChat function will become one of the factors considered when buying a car, and it is a bonus item. For workers engaged in the in-vehicle WeChat business, I think this result is good enough, what do you think? (Photo/Zheng Xu from the home of the car)
