  7. Spacious / practical interview...

[YesAuto owner interview] Ford Explorer was officially launched in China on March 28, 2013. It has been more than a year. This car is very popular in the United States. It was once the best-selling SUV in the United States for 15 consecutive years. Sales exceeded 6.4 million vehicles. In the Chinese market, it is a highly practical and well-balanced product in the SUV market of about 500,000, and it is also favored by many consumers. Today we are going to interview three car owners and listen to their car experience.

Mr. Ji:

Mr. Ji is 27 years old this year, married, and has been driving for 7 years. He bought the 2013 Explorer 3.5L exclusive model. The time of purchase was August 2013. He has driven nearly 26,000 kilometers so far, and he has used it very frequently.

In the car selection stage, Mr. Ji’s original car was a Chevrolet Cruze, and he planned to replace it with a large-space SUV. Since he often takes his family to drive long distances in other provinces and cities, he also has a certain demand for off-road performance. The initial candidate model was Toyota Prado, but I gave up because I didn't like Japanese cars. Later I considered Jeep Grand Cherokee, but the price did not feel ideal. In the end, Mr. Ji chose this Ford Explorer. The price was reasonable, and it was a 7-seater model, which was quite satisfactory in all aspects. What Mr. Ji bought was a high-end model with a guide price of 538,800. There was no price increase, and some decorations were given as a gift.

More satisfactory place:

Mr. Ji likes long-distance travel. He has run 26,000 kilometers in a few months. The intensity of use is relatively high. The large space and long-distance comfort of explorers just meet the needs. The comfort of the third row of seats is also acceptable. It is very comfortable for the whole family and children to go out. It is a suitable model for traveling. And the four-wheel drive system of this car can also meet simple off-road situations.

Dissatisfaction:

Mr. Ji felt that the explorer was good in all aspects, and the only room for improvement was its ground clearance. The explorer's ground clearance is 193mm, which is the level of a standard urban SUV, but it is slightly inferior to the two professional off-road vehicles considered by Mr. Ji before, and the explorer is still not suitable for high-intensity off-road.

Regarding fuel consumption:

Because he often runs long distances, the average speed of Mr. Ji’s explorers is relatively high. The fuel consumption of 13 liters/100 kilometers is normal. Mr. Ji is basically satisfied with this fuel consumption. It is good that such a big car can reach this value.

Owner's summary:

Mr. Ji gave a very satisfactory evaluation of the space. The practical third-row seats were the main reason why he chose this car. As for the performance and passability of the four-wheel drive, it is basically acceptable. I am afraid that there are few all-round excellent models in the same price range. The performance of the explorer is already very good.

Mr. Gao:

Mr. Gao is 30 years old this year. He has been married and had children. He has been driving for 9 years. He bought the 2013 Explorer 3.5L exclusive model. He bought the car in September 2013 and has driven 19,000 kilometers so far.

In the car selection stage, Mr. Gao referred to Jeep Grand Cherokee and Volkswagen Touareg, but both gave up because of the high price. In contrast, the explorer is relatively affordable and is in line with expectations in terms of external dimensions, internal space and overall performance. Mr. Gao was attracted to explorers at first sight, and after asking the price, he made up his mind to buy.

More satisfactory place:

Mr. Gao also values the figure of the explorer. The flat trunk can hold a lot of things. The whole car has a feeling of being elevated when driving. It is very stable and gives people a more sense of security. In terms of technology configuration, Mr. Gao is not too concerned about it, but thinks that the sound effect is very good and the navigation is good.

Dissatisfaction:

Mr. Gao's main dissatisfaction is the car key, and it is not equipped with keyless start. It does not have the sense of grade that a 500,000 model should have. It also feels weird to put it in his pocket. In addition, the setting of the central lock seems to be small. The problem is that there have been cases where the owner of the car was locked out of the door.

Regarding fuel consumption:

Mr. Gao started driving quickly and likes to pursue a certain sense of speed, so the fuel consumption is also higher than the other two cars. The result of 14.2 liters/100 kilometers is also expected.

Owner's summary:

Mr. Gao also valued the space and dimensions of the explorer, as well as the mighty feeling of being a big man. In addition, the 3.5-liter V6 engine power of this car is also sufficient, which is very masculine. The unsatisfactory place is the key and the central control lock and the seat leather. It seems that the American car needs to be strengthened in terms of details.

●Mr. Wang:

Mr. Wang is 28 years old this year and he has not been driving for a long time. He has just bought a car for just 2 years. Like the first two, he bought the 2013 Explorer 3.5L premium model. The car was purchased in May 2013 and the mileage was 15,600 kilometers.

When he planned to buy a car, Mr. Wang's criteria were relatively clear: large size, large space, and 7 seats. I considered Ford Sharp, the new Shengda and Sorento before, but I still felt that the space was a little smaller, and I finally took a fancy to this Ford Explorer. Since the car was purchased earlier, the price was increased by 35,000 yuan, but it also received a free configuration.

More satisfactory place:

Mr. Wang’s requirements for space are not as high as those of the previous car owners, but he still likes the explorer’s large body size, and he likes a variety of thoughtful configurations, such as third-row seat electric folding, automatic parking, and self-parking. It is suitable for functions such as cruise and remote start, which is very convenient for daily use.

Dissatisfaction:

Although the space for the explorer and the trunk is very large, the storage space in the front row is not very rich. The mobile phone and wallet cannot be placed in a suitable place, so they can only be placed in two cup holders. Here, this is one of Mr. Wang’s most dissatisfaction. Also, the original Hankook tires are too noisy. For this reason, the owner has spent a lot of money to buy Pirelli Scorpion tires. In terms of configuration, Ford Explorer's high-end models are already very rich, but the only one lacks xenon headlights. The penetration rate of xenon headlights in American cars is relatively low, and Chinese consumers tend to value it. After all, there are few halogen headlights in the same class.

Regarding fuel consumption:

Mr. Wang's requirements for power are not very high, and he usually drives relatively mildly. Therefore, although he is often used in cities and the average speed is not high, his fuel consumption is relatively low. 12 liters/100 kilometers is a good result.

to sum up:

It can be seen from the narration of the three car owners that what they like the most is the large size and large space of the Ford Explorer, and its flexible spatial layout, 7-seater practicality, and very suitable for home use. This is the same. The price of SUV is more outstanding. In addition, this car has the luxurious and comfortable driving style of American SUV, and has great advantages in comfort. The power of the 3.5-liter V6 engine is good, and the fuel consumption is also at an acceptable level, not as high as the traditional impression of American cars. In terms of configuration, high-end models can already fully meet household needs, but the configuration of the original factory without xenon headlights still finds it a bit unacceptable for Chinese consumers. In general, the performance of the explorer is satisfactory and worthy of consideration by those pragmatic consumers.
