[YesAuto Evaluation] Recently, some domestic joint venture brand car companies have joined the ranks of independent model research and development. Compared with other independent brand car companies, they have the advantage that they can use some mature platforms to adjust the details and make a so-called brand new joint venture. The autonomous car was born. The Venus R50 routine in this test is similar to the previous Venus D50. It uses the old Tiida (Yida) platform. I don't need to say more about the others. The reasonable people will understand it at first glance.

Driving experience

In terms of power configuration, the R50 is the same as the D50, using the old Tiida 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine with a maximum power of 86kW (117 horsepower)/6000rpm and a maximum torque of 158N·m/4400rpm. HR16DE has a good performance in terms of ride comfort and reliability, which have been verified.

The R50's throttle adjustment has a typical Japanese style. It is very sensitive in the early stage, and the vehicle will move forward if you tap the throttle, but the reaction in the middle and rear stages is relatively slow. The performance of power can be said that R50 can cope with general daily use with ease, reaching 80km/h without any effort. If you step on the accelerator to death, the R50 will also provide a small push back feeling, which will not make people feel the feeling of severe muscle weakness, but the noise of the engine is already unacceptably noisy.

The 4-speed automatic gearbox on the old Tiida was transplanted to the R50. The shifting and gear selection have been carefully adjusted. In daily use, the frustration will be minimized as much as possible. It is almost impossible to realize it. The feeling of shifting gears. On the side of the shifter, there is a “overcomparison” close button. At this time, the gearbox will no longer be raised to fourth gear for continuous uphill or overtaking.

The shortcomings of this congenital lack of gears are also obvious. If an emergency overtaking is required and the throttle is suddenly to the end, the gearbox will quickly drop 2 gears to facilitate the engine's power. The speed difference is large, causing the vehicle to have a significant setback and then move forward. Actions.

Over-ratio gear means that the transmission ratio is less than 1, generally about 0.7-0.85, which means that the speed of the output shaft of the transmission is greater than the speed of the input shaft. The advantage of this is that the engine speed can be effectively reduced, thereby improving the fuel economy of the vehicle. (English: OVER DRIVE, turn off the overdrive, that is, O/D OFF)

R50 continues to use the front and rear torsion beam semi-independent suspension structure, focusing on the comfort of riding, and the long stroke, which can well absorb and filter most of the vibration. The electric power steering assist is very light, which relieves a lot of burdens on congested roads and parking, and the feedback intensity is also just right.

The so-called fish and bear’s paws cannot have both. The handling is not the strength of R50. We have already experienced this during the Kaichen D50 test. The high center of gravity brought by the high body, the softer suspension and the small 185mm Narrow tires are the powerful enemies you are about to face. When entering a corner faster, the body will warn the driver to slow down with a clear collapse, and the tires will also be accompanied by a very sharp tire noise to tell the driver their limits.

Talking about the feeling of circling the pile, the first few pile tubes R50 can barely cope with it. As the speed slowly increases, the suspension begins to compress to the end, and it is unable to rebound, causing the vehicle to continue to slide and lose control. The whole R50 series is not equipped with ESP (Electronic Body Stability System), so let's take it slowly. I also believe that this kind of scooter will complete its task as long as the passengers are comfortable enough.

Fuel consumption test

We tested the fuel consumption of the automatic R50 for 115.4 kilometers, with an adult male driver for the entire journey. The driving time is about 3 and a half hours. We simulated the road conditions that everyone walked on and off work, including about 40% of the road conditions less than 20 kilometers, and the rest of the city road conditions with signal lights.

Lao Tiida has always been very fuel efficient, and these advantages are also vividly displayed on the R50 with almost the same hardware conditions. The final vehicle consumes 9.64 liters of fuel, and the measured overall fuel consumption is 8.35 liters/100 kilometers. Under similar road conditions, it is about 1 fuel higher than the manual version of the D50. This is in line with expectations. Considering that the road conditions are not ideal, this result is OK. accept. If your commuting to and from get off work is a little smoother, keeping it within 8 should not be a problem.

We give reasonable fuel consumption reference values for various levels of models (non-rigid indicators)

Purely economical minicar: no more than 7 liters/100 kilometers

Small car/hybrid: no more than 8 liters/100 kilometers

Compact/light SUV: no more than 10 liters/100 kilometers

Medium-sized car/medium-sized SUV: no more than 12 liters/100 kilometers

Other models: no more than 15 liters/100 kilometers

0-100km/h acceleration test

Previously, the D50 with a manual gearbox ran in 10.25 seconds, which is very good for a 1.6L model. What kind of answer will the R50 with a 4-speed automatic gearbox produce now?

At the start, the tires will slip for a short time and then the grip will be restored. The 4-speed automatic gearbox performs well. The selected shift timing and shift speed are not hindered. The whole acceleration is not strong but it is continuous and stable. The G-value attenuation is not severe. In the end, the R50 completed the test in 10.94 seconds. The narrow tires of 185mm and the lighter vehicle weight are the keys to good results. It is 0.69 seconds slower than the manual D50, which is what we expected.

Emergency brake test

The comfort-conscious suspension could not handle the sudden shift in the center of gravity during the emergency braking test, and the front suspension was compressed to its limit. Fortunately, there is no problem with braking force, and there is no thermal decay after 10 emergency braking tests. The continuous braking graph is almost in a straight line. The final score is 42.33 meters, which is very close to the D50, which is not excellent, in line with its expected performance.

Bike summary

It is true that with the help of Nissan technology, R50 has more mature power matching, delicate chassis tuning and spacious space experience than other genuine independent brands, which can meet the needs of domestic consumers for a family car. In addition to these, you can also get the same after-sales and maintenance as Dongfeng Nissan, which is a good choice for some families who pay more attention to the quality of life and have insufficient funds.

As a shell replacement product of the old Tiida, it is not surprising that the R50 can have such a performance, and limited by factors such as price and cost, there are also various simple configurations on the R50, such as the front and rear disc brakes being changed to the front and rear disc brakes. The rearview mirror cannot be adjusted in the car. If you want to adjust, you can only get out of the car and press the lens inside. This is really not enough for the manufacturer, which is too cost-effective. We must point out the criticism, and hope that it can be improved in future revisions.

R50 and Baojun 630

Both of them belong to joint venture independent brands, and because the price range is very close, there may be some difficulties in choosing, so let's analyze it for you below. Baojun 630 has a 6-speed automatic manual gearbox and four-wheel disc brakes. The newly added 1.8L model also enriches its product line. These are not available in the R50. The recent monthly sales of more than 8,000 units have also proved The market affirmed it. On the contrary, the bright spots of R50 do not seem to be many. The advantage of the shot is the more spacious rear seating space and the comfortable suspension inherited from the old Tiida, but these two points are also the two factors that consumers are most concerned about, so R50 Also has quite strong competitiveness. If your family pays more attention to space and comfort, then R50 can do better than competitors.

How to buy R50?

If you are ready to start with R50, we recommend the best models for you. The premium version of the top configuration has more power sunroofs, aluminum alloy wheels, leather seats, CD players, rear wipers and front fog lights than the comfort version. The price is only 7,000 yuan more, which is very cost-effective and worth recommending.

From a market perspective, Venus was born to capture those second- and third-tier cities and compete with independent brands such as Geely and Great Wall. As a new product, Dongfeng Nissan Kaichen obviously does not want it to fight the battle of brand effect. It has only one purpose, which is to impress consumers to accept their products with the price-performance ratio. After all, when choosing a car at this price, it is “cost-effective.” It is one of the most frequently spoken words in our mouths.
